Title: CD player skipping?
Post by: zwild on August 26, 2004, 11:18:50 AM
I was wondering if anybody else has this problem? My CD player freezes, it just stops playing, sometimes only for a few seconds and sometimes I have to use the radio because it won't play at all, I try switching tracks and the darn still wont play. It happens with brand new store bought CD's, and not as much with the ones that I burned at home, it either plays them well or not at all. I had the CD player replaced once already by the dealer and thought the problem was solved, but here I go again?? Any suggestions or quick fixes? [smiley=smash.gif]

same problem, I think the only fix is to get a MP3 player and plug it in.

Having the same problem with purchased CD's.  No problem with the one's burned at home.  Talked to several electronics guys and they have no answer to the problem that makes any sense.  Best bet....I plug my IPod player in and have over 1000 tunes ready to go.

I seem to have the problem with my home burned cd's.  It will play a cd in some cases if I use SONY media.  Most other media quits after I play it once.  Skips, wont read or wont play at all.

I have the same issue. I have found that it happen more towards the last few tracks of the CD and while the tunes are cranked. If I lower the volume for 20 - 30 seconds it starts playing again. I know that sounds strange, but it works for me.

Been awhile since this thread has been up.  Anybody else having problems with their CD player or has everybody switched over to iPod, MP3 or satellite radio? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Can't wait for the Garmin 2730 to get here! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]Then it'll be my iPod or satellite radio all the time.

JC, haven't had any CD skipping problems and don't want any.  When did your's start and is it consistant or intermittent?  Now you've got me worried.   [smiley=nervous.gif]   spyder

Seems to be intermittent......after an hour or two of playing.  And it doesn't seem to matter if they're store bought or CDs that are burned at home.

I play my iPod more and more, so the skipping is less of a nusance, now.

This was an issue for awhile and I know a couple of these guys had there stereo replaced under warranty, due to it, but hadn't heard anything lately so thought I'd check and see if nobody else has experienced it. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

My cd player skips toward the end of cd. No matter what speed or what type of cd. Called mfg. and they said to have dealership verify and call them and would send replacment for the next day. I plan on having this done the next pm.

Check an eariler thread on this about this problem six months ago, that is where I got mfg. phone#

Mine is in the shop right now for the CD player.  Somewhere along the line, it simply started refusing to load CDs.  Not sure how long it had been broke.  Since installing the H-D MP3 player this spring, I hardly ever use the CD player.  I first noticed it puked one night a couple months ago.  I'd gone to Walmart on the bike to get a few things and happened to pick up a new CD while I was there.  I thought I'd listen to it on the ride home, so I unwrapped it in the parking lot, when to stick it in the player, and the lousy thing wouldn't go in.  Never had skipped a day in its life, though.

Like AK, I plan to eventually upgrade to the '06-style radio.  Just wanted to have this one in good working order to sell when that happens.

Interesting, I have never had a skip problem and I use the CD function just about every minute I am on the bike. Glad my bike can't read this or she would want to be like all the other bikes and skip to. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

When I jump on the gas really hard, mine will stop playing and then come back on after a few seconds. If I hit a big bump it skips or quits playing completely. Sometimes it will start again other times I have to change tracks to get it going again.

I think they're supposed to skip.   This is number 3 and all have done it.  Apparently, it's some kind of mix or shuffle feature that we're not aware of. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Mine skips whenever the hell it wants to [smiley=confused5.gif]
Sometimes plays good for weeks [smiley=confused5.gif]
Other times it's bad every day [smiley=confused5.gif]
Doesn't matter if they're burnt or bought [smiley=confused5.gif]
When it's damp in the morning it won't read anything when the cd's in [smiley=confused5.gif]
But as the day warms up it plays just fine [smiley=confused5.gif]
I dicussed this with my service manager and he just went [smiley=confused5.gif]

Take Care,

Grover [smiley=confused5.gif]

MP3 player works just fine [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I know we have been through this all before...I had the problem as well on my 04...went through all kinds of dealer uhhusss..

MY FIX... I went to the local audio store and bought a 20$ CD player cleaner.   the one that you put the solution on the disc ( the disc actually has soft brushes placed in the plastic ) the solution rests on the brushes and makes genle contact with the laser eye of the CD player and cleans it off... The players build up static charge from riding and playing which collects dust faster , even with the dust cover closed.  I cleaned mine off twice and PERFECT PLAY...
TRY THIS FIX FIRST. USE ONLY THE CLEANER DISC THAT HAS BRUSHES AND SOLUTION.
Good luck.
LeRoy.

I have the problem also. Usually around the 10th or so track. I just thought it was the time, around 30-40 minutes in and it starts. I read in the owners manual, any problems send it to the manufacturer. I guess I'll ignore it unless they want to switch for a new 06 model and I"ll make up the difference. OHOH cant do that not enough speakers right?

A couple of guys have switched to the Harmon Cardin already (06 model) and I know of two more that are in the process right now.  Twolane has a very detailed thread on here somewhere regarding the changeover if you want to do a search.

Ya bro we got it alright, the white stuff. I never saw it till it was over and on the ground, been down and out with the flu. Just been getting myself back to the real world catching up. I'm going to pick up something for it Friday. I'll let you know what happens, I'll try it a bunch of times while in the garage, I'll ride around in a bunch of circles, maybe even put up some summer scenery, to give it the right feel.

Mark,
I got a chance to ride a little today, weather (http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1139439479/57#57) here was unreal especially after having six inches of snow last Saturday. CD seemed to work fine so far (keeping fingers crossed), but was only able to take a short ride. When skipping occurred before it was after riding about 50 - 60 minutes of continuous riding/playing CD.

My cd also skips intermittently. Always at freeway speed though when it happens. Deifinitely not related to hitting bumps cuase it can be the smoothest road sometimes. I reported it last seek to my dealer. They're contacting the vendor to see if they want to replace it.

 Hi Fire,
I got my chopped tour pac LED brake light and the white HD tourpac/saddle bags lighting wiring now set-up with a quick disconnect plug that's hidden under my Strut cover. Got several feet of extra wiring removed and the fuses set in a good spot. I gain a little room as well.
I got those Clearview shields in so I've pulled my HD 12" one off and marked it to chop it to 4" with the corners set to hide my Windshield bags, the original black deflector isn't quite big enough to hide the bags so I cant use it.
The factory antenna brackets and antenna lead is gone now that the digital one is installed in the fairing, cleaned up the ass end nicely.
I rewired my GPS with a different supply cord that 2lane gave me the heads-up on,which is now cut and shortened by at least 2' and is coming out of the fairing through the opening of the handlebars, where it is cut off and a weather boot with a rubber plug hides it very well you have to get down on your knee up close to see it.
So now more annoying women's voice telling me im off course anymore!!!!
I also got my Sony camera set up with a ram mount on the right side and a remote commander attached to the left mirror arm, I think this should work out for the time being, I don't want to have it on my bike all the time so it can be setup fairly quick when I need it, and im not wearing all can of crap on myself.
I've got busy on my trailer too, installed a wall mount for my tourpac when im using the trailer, I also want to install a cabinet to hold more stuff like my lower faring when off.

I'll try to get those on soon, The work was done to make it as hard as possible to see it, so the pics I've taken so far doesnt show it well. Also my basic Black helps greatly to hide it. I'll try additional lights to see if that will help.

magicl1,

I was a little skeptical that just cleaning would fix the skipping, but I tried it this past weekend with a cleaning disk I found at Circuit City, and the skipping is cured (for now).  We will probably need to do this on a regular basis, since the CD slot really isn't sealed that well.

I had a skipping problem. I found that my SE Pro 2:1 front head pipe was contacting my rear brake pedal/lever. After a couple of minor adjustments, the clearance was back and presto....no more skip. It was a vibration issue that was so minor, I couldn't feel it. But the CD player could.

My CD skipped on my bike from the very first CD I put in it.  But then the display would go blank every now and then,, so when I took my bike in the last  time,,  my Dealer replaced my radio with a new one,, and my CD has not skipped  since I got the bike back.   I was told the MOCO had problems with the first batch of radios the put in the 06 Ultra's!   I am very satisfied now!!   Hope everyone else gets there problems fixed!

I will try the cleaner but this radio is a replacement for the last one that skipped and has only been used about two hours and it started to skip on the very first CD used. I think they are just trading these back and forth because as I said earlier this one skips worse than the last one. DelNel >:(
