Probably should add what tires you are running. I have metzlers and am running 46 front and 48-50 in the rear.

Stock Dunlops for me, GRC mentioned his settings as cold. Mine are as well, 40/40 cold

HarleyGirl......why so little air pressure in your tires? What does your bike's manual specify? I think you would get a safer ride and much improved tire and fuel mileage with increased tire pressures. That's according to the Dunlop technicians also. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] spyder

Was just thinkin, 2 weeks ago it was 42 degrees when I left the house and the high that afternoon got to be 87 degrees then dropped back down to 50 degrees by the time I got home. Always was told to check tires COLD. Wonder what that 45 degree rise does to your tire psi.

This time of the year in the Mid South a 30-40 degree differential is not unusual. Anyone out there have any opinions or knowledge in this area. Was wondering if tires can generate too much air from heat build up to cause concern?

JR, the change in ambient temp. is not gonna cause you any problems with the tires, just ask those Nascar boys down your way. But leaving home that early in the morning could! Har!

Big move in tire industry as tire shops are switching car tires over to Nitrogen
The tire dealers are claiming better air retention and tires run cooler hence better fuel mileage.

Any opinions or thoughts?

The hoopla is that nitrogen molecules are larger. So they can't pass through the limited permeability of the tires (or at least not as much).

I know two guys now that go out of their way, they literally drive 15 miles one way, to go to a shop that has an N tank. So if they check a cold tire and it's down a couple of pounds off they go.....

I'm sorry. It may be better. But sometimes good is good enough. Give me a hose and send me on my way.

JR,

For every 10 degrees drop in ambient temp change your tire will loose 1 psi

Tires are a pain in the rear to check but safety should be our #1 Priority

Fortunately for every 10 degrees increase in air temp not a 1 psi increase

If thats the case, why do you need to check em cold? If temp will not raise air psi it shouldn't matter if it's hot or cold, right? Or are you talking about a bike that is just sitting there, say in your garage on a rainy day? What about your tire as it heats up, doesn't the air psi increase? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

This morning it was 27 degrees when I left the house and made it up to 68 degrees today! Was sure glad for my heated seat!

I tried the front and rear at 0 lbs.....thought I had those "run flat Dunlops" like Otis. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Tore the chit out of the tires and rims.....
