B/B paint help
« on: February 20, 2006, 09:52:58 PM »

I have customized my front and rear fenders, and I would like to supply the painter with as much info as I can from the guys here who have allready matched the 4 colors on the 04 B/B.  The painter does have  PPG in his shop but is having trouble finding the codes.  Has anyone shot a complete front fender to match or rear that is willing to give us some tips?

   Thanks

Yes I have done a search.  All I can come up with is the starlight black, I am also needing the blue flame, Gold, and matalic blue.

I did some paint work on mine after I got it when I added the king tour pack.  PPG did not have the "codes" and H-D was not giving up the SE codes.  PPG has the ability to use a color reader to get real close to the code and the blue metallic came so very close.  The black is really a very dark purple sprayed on top of the blue metallic, which really makes it a candy color or Tri-coat color.  This also came very close to matching but varies by the amount of coats you apply over the blue.

I never tried to match the copper color.

Good luck and post to tell us how it turned out.

Somewhere (in one of my magazines I think) I read where the starlight black is a two step process of the cobalt blue first with the black over it (or was that vica-versa?).

Ive been to two paint shops and HD no luck on a paint match.  HD will not even send my custom fenders in to have them painted.  I have not found any paint codes for the B&B on this site, if I have missed somthing here please let me know. Any help would be much appreciated.

After talking to my painter. He only needed the starlite black for my parts that he repainted. Jeff the person I got the bike from actually painted the whole bike and has the codes. He is on the board but I don't remember his screen name.

Twolane you don't happen to remember do you????

Check back in the for sale section. I got the bike in may of last year.

I am at work today and leaving for the outerbanks tomorrow. When I return I will look for his phone number. I am not sure if I still have it. He owns a body shop in Paducha Ky and his name is Jerry. He painted the bike when he picked it up(wrecked). The bike looked great, so I know he can match it.

Windless,
As J.C. mentioned Dean Nelson who builds trikes did a fantastic job on his 04 Seeg and the paint looked perfect. Try getting a PM to him and when you do get the codes, post them here for the rest of us! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Might not be a bad idea for a separate topic be added to the site with pertainate info such as this, so when it's needed just go right to the thread and gather whatever paint codes for whatever year. JMO  ;)

Hey 103 Eagle, I went to my painters Fri to check the match on the Starlightblack good news for a change.  He used the formula in the above post and the purple black tint was perfect in and out of different lighting but it had to many starlights in it.  He said the starlights called for 9 grams he is going to remix with 2 grams and add as needed.  I will let you all know how it turns out.  If anybody uses the PPG codes plan on a few cans of paint that are not even close.  Thanks again all for any help or direction I was sent to get this project this far.

I know my painter used the PPG formula for the Starkite Black and it was a perfect match. The guy I sold the bike to hit a pole with the right saddel bag. He repainted it and again a perfect match.

I wish the PPG we got would have been a perfect match.  The Starlight black had a brown tint instead of purple and the blue was more purple than blue.  Maybe the mixer did not do his job wright.  Be sides I'm ready to finish this project and ride.

EAGLE last time I saw it, it matched. When I bought it not all of the parts were repainted and it matched then too. So I don't know what to tell you. Right after I pick it up a wheel chock broke in the trailer and it fell against my Pumpkin. Damaged the fairing on both and one saddle bag and lid on the B/B. Damage was just scratches in the paint. The Orange was a perfect match. it is a 3 stage color and he had trouble with it. He ended up mixing the orange and pearl together and it looks great. The B/B he also had trouble with. His jobber has a BRAND NEW PPG mixing system and the codes were in his computer. I can try to go visit him this week and see if he still has the code and get the low down on how he did it if he had to do anything different.

Sorry 103 Eagle.
I did pick it up to take to the pin striper but he(the painter) had it all sanded so I have not got to see how well it turned out. The painter is very reputable and said he was very happy with how it turned out. I did see a test plate and it looked good.  I should be getting it back on  May 17.  I will let you know how it turned out.
