Bought a 2013 CVO RG. Hated the Windspitter it came with but liked the look. Bought a 12" LRS Mako. Better but still get a lot of buffeting and don't care much for the look. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam. Like to know what you guys use and what you like and dislike about your current shield.

I'm 5'9 with a 30" inseam too. I love my Klockwerks 12" Flare.
No wind and I get no buffeting either.  I can even smoke on the highway with no issues :2vrolijk_21:

Best one so far for me

I've got the same one in light smoke. Being right about 6' with a 34" inseam  I wished I would have went with a 13" for a little more protection.

I know. I'm thinking of a Cee Bailey's on the switch. Then I would have 4 windshields in my collection.  :-X Stock, Windvest 10" that was way too small for me, the KW and a new one.

You may want to look at Freedom Shields.  They just came out with a new shield for the Road Glide.  Or go with the Klock Werks 12" that Jr. has.  He seems to be very happy with the Klock Werks and it has the look that you like.

I now have a LRS Mako in the 16".  Just a little to high for me.  Going to return/exchange for a 15".  They also have have 1/2" increments available.  This shield removes the buffering very well.

All good advice. Have KW on my SG and like it so think I'll give the 12" a try.

Too short for me. At times I like to duck below the top lip of the shield and it's just about an inch too short for that. I'll respond to your email in a minute.

I went with the 14" H-D Windsplitter which is 2" taller than the stock shield. It's much better but it would be perfect if it was another inch taller, and slouching down helps at highway speeds. This only came in clear so I ended up tinting the inside with a dark smoke film, then ran a small-profile edge gasket along the edge to finish it off and keep the film in place. I really like the looks of the Windsplitter on these bikes.

It seems that anything bigger than 16" is a lot less sporty looking and more like a touring w/s. I tried a 12" Klockwerks earlier, hoping the recurve would push more air up and over me, but it was worse than the stock 12" w/s. The Madstad intrigues me, and everything I've read suggests it's very effective, but I'm just not sure if I could get used to the way it looks.

I have recently put my first 1,000 miles on my new Orange CVO RG Custom and the winshield is a problem. Does anyone have any ideas of anything that will help with the wind, but not screw up the look too bad? I have corrected my issues with previous Road Glides with Clearview, Kockwerks, and C Bailey's but this bike has a totally different look and I can not find anything online or any forum with a solution for this bike. I am 6 feet tall.  I am convinced it is not the lack of lowers causing this and is a winshield issue.
Any suggestions and pictures of your solutions on your bike will be greatly appreciated. I ordered the tour pack etc and plan on making this my touring bike, but I will need to go back to the Road Glide Touring if I don't get this figured out.

I am also 6' tall and have had the same issue.    I had a 2012 CVO Road Glide and now have a 2013. I didn't like the factory windsplitter. I tried a friends 12" windvest(didn't help). I bought a 12" klock werks(not much better). I put on a 14" windvest at biketoberfest and it made all the difference in the world. I rode 300 miles the day I put it on without the wind buffeting my ears. I also don't have to turn the stereo up nearly as much as before.

I have been fighting this battle since I got my bike. I have gone thru quite a few different shields including the 14 HD, the KM 16, Cee Baileys 15 all with no luck against buffeting until I got the Cee Baileys 16 which works for me up to about 80mph at which time the buffeting still kicks in but it is livable.  I am 6.3 with a 33 inseam and I switched the rear shocks to 13in Ohlins which also lifts up the rear an inch.

Still looking for pictures on a 2013 CVO RG CUSTOM with a tall windshield on it. I know taller ones look fine on the standard RG and RG touring, but have a feeling going to look bad on the Custom. Trying to get a look to see if I can live with it before I buy the windshield. I would appreciate any pictures!

not my bike, but to answer the question, no, it isn't.  the windsplitter comes in 9'', 12'' smoked (which is a dark tint), and 15'' smoked, which in this case is really an almost clear tint.

Just ordered the LRS Mako 14 inch will be here Monday I'm 6 foot 34 inseam and have been running a 16 inch Clearview for 2 years gonna post my feelings on it once its on..
So I installed the Mako and have a couple of observations so far 1st from all the posts on this shield I was expecting a thick solid shield this is a lot thinner than the Clearview it is replacing hoping thats not going to be an issue 2nd has no black painted portion on bottom of shield to cover ugly trim strip behind the radio and between the fairing halves 3rd Slotted mounting holes are not able to be covered by the nylon washers so slot is visible on both sides of the mounting screws .
none of these are major issues and are not going to stop me from running this shield it looks good on the bike havnt taken a test ride yet maybe later today
Ordered and received this within 4 days cannot ask for a better delivery service great job LRS
P.S  the LRS  is 2 1/2 inches shorter than the Clearview but only sits about1 inch lower because of the steeper angle

I know this thread is a couple weeks old but I just joined the forum so I'll throw out my opinion.  I always go for function over looks.  I'm moving the Madstad from my old RGC to my new CVO.  I had to order a new mounting plate which should arrive today or tomorrow.   The Madstad is ugly as sin but it's the best shield I've ever used.

I ended up ordering the C Glide in 13 inch dark smoke. I am willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort to have a windshield that is not horrible looking. Clearly the stock shield or something similar is going to look the best on this bike, but I think this will look decent and still get me enough protection to improve my comfort.

Well, after going through several shields, I decided to give Freedom Shields a try from a suggestion by Inferno1776. Glad I did. Ordered a 12". Fit an finish better than the other 3 I tried and no more buffeting. Test rode the shield with just a half helmet and sunglasses and at 75mph glasses were not shaking and only getting clean air. John at Freedom Shields is great to work with also. Now I have a garage full of shields. I like the RoagGlide and read about how hard it was to find the right shield and they did not lie. Never that hard to dial in a shield on the RoadKings and SG's I've owned. Appreciate all the responses and advice from the forum.

You can't go wrong with a Windvest.  :bananarock:

They still look sexy, not geezer, and really work well. (at least for me)

Combined with lowers, the plastic defectors for the engine guards, fork baffles

and you have a bullet proof set up.

Sizing up and getting the right size shield makes a big difference.

I'm 6'1", will see how the 15" windvest works. Seems from what most have said 14" is a tad short for people my height and 16" is a bit tall. I like the top to be even with my chin.

Roadglide.org Has a thread containing the info of different windshield heights measured from the top of the speedo "ledge". Lots of good info. Stock height on my '11 FLTRUSE measures at 12 5/8" above that point even though it's the stock HD 16" sheild. Might be a good starting point to go by.

I agree. Using the manufactures size isn't of much help as there are several different designs. Measuring from the speedo bezel is ideal, a true number of sorts.

Hi all been following this thread for a while, to answer the question regarding fitting a windvest and using the original rubber gasket the answer is yes it fits fine just a little over hang on the gasket as the windvest shield is slightly shorter over all I change between original and windvest 14 all the time just be careful with the grommets in the fairing very easy to push them into the fairing. Hope this helps

Crash Bar Flaps, Vented Lowers ('10+ brackets), GADS LTTD, and 12" WindSplitter = Aerodynamic Nirvana for me! (6'4" 34 inseam)

I didn't add any of this stuff in any "scientific" order; 12" WindSplitter, Flaps, Brackets/GADS then (when Gunslinger finished painting) the Vented Lowers were the last piece of the puzzle for me. One of these days, I will re-install the stock "Toenail" to see how much difference the windshield actually makes, once these other pieces are in play...

Clean air, no buffeting, at any speed, with or without a helmet.

OK Now I just learned my KW windshield is a 12". I measured from the base to the tip and it was 14" but the dealer told me to measure the height straight up from the base. He also said KW does not make a 14". He also said KW does not make a 10" so Im still trying to figure out whats best to try next.

Not sure if you're on the RoadGlide site but here's a great link on measuring windshields.
