My concerns are in the post.
The manager made it clear that these are the same lights...
(They are just now made to fit the RG.)
I am curious about the issues he spoke of and if anyone is experience the same... on a RG.
Thanks

Unfortunately the dealership staffs, especially the sales staffs (and that's all a floor manager is at most shops) rarely know a lot more than they read on the boxes so far as product information is concerned.  Both lights are marketed under the name "Daymaker."  That's likely where the gentleman is getting the notion that they are the "same."

We can actually look though.  Put side by side it's obvious that the Road Glide and the prior light aren't the same.  Not only the obvious fact that the Road Glide simply has two of them, but the lights themselves are markedly different in several areas.

Wow.  Making this way too difficult.

The question was really about the performance of the current lights.

Let go of the distraction of the manager and his experience, and just consider the actual concern of the light's capabilities.

You can do it.

With the black plastic trim housing around the headlights that's in place on the Road Glides my first guess is that the chrome headlight is going to look a bit out of place compared to how the black light will blend in.  Will be interested to see the first one installed.  Sure many will buy the other just because they don't think beyond the word "chrome."  Black is very likely the much preferred option here though.

I don't know that the chrome ones would look any more out of place than a pair of halogens do.  It's possible that on a lighter colored bike, even with the black surround, black lights will be the ones that look odd. :nixweiss:

I was wondering as the stock headlight is reflective/shiny like chrome.

Black looks OK.. but you still have that vertical strip of chrome.

I think I'd like to see the Chrome version installed before I make a final call on which one to use...  (And I need another 16 hours of OT to afford it!)

I just read on the internet (so it must be true) that Brian 103110Thunder is going to guinea pig that expensive chrome one so we'll all know for sure  ::) .

Chip has to tell me if they'll work on one of the old, decrepit SERGs, first, then I might be your man.  Even though my fairing is 90% black, I think black LEDs might be too much of a divergence from the Classic decrepit SERG look and seem out of place.

No tacos required! :nervous: :P

Why don't you see if you can meet the person that is giving you the information you speak of at night and see for yourself. :nixweiss:
Howdy--

Really nice guy, and manager at local HD told me that these are very bright, but are a direct beam of light that is different than what we are used to.  He rode with them and said he noticed that his lights did not emit the ambient light that normal lights do, so that he did not make street signs (ahead and off the side) reflect ambient light the way normal lights do, and he said as they all went thru a dark tunnel (at night too) his light beam was very bright and wide, but did not make the walls, ceiling, and such "glow" like normal lights.

He explained it as a very bright and direct white beam of light, and "nothing else."  He made it clear the difference would take some getting used to.

I want to try them.  I dig the look and the bright light.  But he was somewhat cautious about them... I believe he had them on a newer EG.  Not brand new, but he said they are the same lights.

What is your take on this?

Thanks for any input!
Then you would have your answer first hand. :2vrolijk_21:

To answer the question you posed, one would have to have both an EG and an RG with LEDs.  How many people do you think have had first-hand experience with LEDs in both models?  Oh, wait, Chip does!  He bought the LEDs for his EG, knowing that, yes, there's a difference in the light pattern between an LED and a standard halogen headlight.  Sur-phucking-prise! ::)  THEN, he was actually the first one here to bite the bullet and buy LEDs for his RG and reports here that they are amazing in that application, as well.

If you like to light up the walls and ceilings of tunnels, these lights might not be for you.  But if you like to see farther down the road in front of you, these might be just the ticket! :idea2:  I see from another post you made that you already have a set for your SERGC on order.  Why don't you just look forward to the installation and then do a report back to us with your impressions. :nixweiss:

In other words ......... let it go already. ;D
