Title: the Ultimate Windshield.
Post by: porkypig on August 15, 2011, 07:08:06 AM
Well, all, let me say that I have "been to the well and drank from the water", so to speak.  I did the Sturgis thing last week and rode the new 2012 Convertible and it is "marvelous" in all respects.  The new windshield is approximately 3 inches wider side to side, 1-1/2" taller (regardless of what they print) and has the wind deflecters built into the bottom of the fairing which gives it more mass from side to side when removing it.  And it has a small 3-4" cutout just above the dash which helps reduce felt turbulence according to one who seemed to "know his onions", again so to speak.  Apparently the Motor company did their research in a wind tunnel and these results is what they came up with.  I can say that I ran the bike on the freeway at 80 mph with my visor up on my fullface Shoei helmet and felt I could light a cigarette (if I smoked, which I don't) and enjoy a smoke going down the road.  Put my hand up in front of my helmet and felt no turbulence at all until at the very top of my helmet.  Then I reenacted the same scenario with my 2011 and when I put my visor up I was pretty much overcome with turbulence in all areas of my face and would have "smoked" that cigarette inside of 30 seconds!  that's reduction of wind turbulence in my way of thinking.  They did change the signals to down below the windshield which could allow the incorporation of an auxiliary light bar down the road if someone wanted to mount one on.  As far as the gps is concerned, it looks like a nice unit and is mounted in a great place while you are using the windshield on the road but when the shield comes off, so does the gps.  Suppose one wouldn't be concerned about the gps if all the stuff is off the bike and you're tooling around town anyway.  When demo riding the bikes at Sturgis, you usually don't have the opportunity to try out the gps.  Guess they don't want you crashing the bike while using something unfamiliar.  Other than that, there are no significant changes to the bike other than a couple new colors.  Not sure if I can upload a picture of the windshield but will try.     Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the bike and feel this is a great size of bike and all for someone who just doesn't want a bigger, bulkier bike.  It is so much more maneuverable and does all the functions of the others unless you are needing more room for longer excursions..........and then I think some conversions could also be made......remember that 2010 convertible that someone modified with hard trunk and hard bags???  and painted the bright orange color??  this bike could be done like that and wow, how cool???  Anyway, the water is fine.....   Pork!
And, by the way, I met Cliffy and his delightful wife, Dolly.......both from London.  We started talking about the bike and I asked him if he reads the HD forum about the convertible......he said he did, and I said I am Porkypig.  He said, "I know you!!!!!  I'm Cliffy!     Ha!  Great fun, let me tell you.

That's good news Porky.  Do you think that setup would fit on a 2010?  I'm not trading mine in just for a few changes.  I already added the GPS, pipes, windshield, cam, tuner and LED lights.  Maybe I'll do the handle bars also.

Well, John, I'm not sure.  It certainly looked like all the parts would be interchangable....the shield itself definitely will just screw onto the fairing, the lower wind deflectors have to be bolted to the chrome bracket on the fairing (we will have to drill 2 holes in each chrome bracket on either side of the fairing to receive the small bolts/nuts), and order the emblem for the front of the shield plus the 3 mounting bolts for it and the inner gray plastic mounting bracket that is the backing for the emblem.  As far as I can tell, these are the only parts needed.  Now, whether the MoCo will allow us to purchase these as upgrades to make the bike more enjoyable at highway speeds is to be seen.  Does anybody out there have part numbers as of yet?  The new parts books are out there I'm sure.  Somebody roll on this one please???    Pork.   My own opinion here would be about a crisp $500 bill for all the parts.  Maybe $600.  And of course we could do all the work ourselves.  Absolutely the "bomb" in my opinion.  Just wonder why it took them until the 3rd year to make this change.....if I think about it enough, I'm sure the answer will come to me.......ha!

a couple notes.  Notice the windshield is completely clear.  Also, the front signals have been switched down below the fairing.  I was told that the shield wouldn't fit if signals were up on handlebars but I believe they would fit with no problem at all.  Below the fairing makes them look a little more balanced and would also augment the addition of a light bar for auxilliary lighting if and when one wants to add them.  On its way to being a "contender" in the touring class.  All I need them to make for me to be happy is saddlebag guard bars so my "precious cargo", my wife, can be safe on the back as well.  Maybe they will read this and make a set special for me........  :2vrolijk_21:
Now, we are getting close to being as close to a CVO Heritage as it is possible to get....... Watch, now next year they will make a CVO Heritage Softail.......remember, you read it first right here on the CVO forum....... Pork.

Parts are still not avaible  for the deflectors ( black plastic pieces)
here are #s that I found 57400130,57400131,57400132, and 57400133
I am going to get and modify them to my  2011
i already have the juroc   winshied 19"  and it is wide
I did tape off the lower part of fairing and it did help
I figured that was the reason they added  that part to the fairing
can't  think why else they would add that
I hope it works

Guy's thanks for the update on the new windshield and deflectors. I called my H-D dealership and they punched in the numbers, that myanoch was so good to find, but they didn't come up. If anyone else finds any more info out there be sure to post it.  This was the only problem that I had with my 2011.

Thanks,

hey porkstar, great photos......  thankyou , so you didnt trade up two years running ???
whats your opinion on the new colors ?
the new screen does make it look more like a heritage, but i still think i like the smaller smoked screens.
i am glad they didnt change too much, no temptation now for me to change.

Well, the jury is still out on trading up for this model.  I like it very much.  Can't seem to get dealers to call me back on prices to trade up, etc.  Is pretty early yet though.  as far as colors go, absolutely I have an opinion.  Just my opinion, but you asked.  The gold color scheme, or whatever they call it was a waste of effort I believe.  does not strike me as anything that should be on a CVO.  these bikes usually have 14 coats of hand applied paint.  why would you apply 14 coats of paint to reach a level of that paint?  and the brown leather I just am not in to.  Doesn't seem to match the Harley theme.  and of course the reptile trim doesnt apply to the brown leather.  Just doesn't appeal to me.  the blue model is quite beautiful if you like skulls.  I'm not sure i like them well enough to look at them constantly.  Love the hue of blue and the darker blue (almost black) is nice but isn't distinct enough in my opinion to tell what color it really is.  But love the leather.  Now the red is where I am thinking it is all heading for me.  Love it.  The main red is back to crimson like 2 years ago with scarlet crystal graphics.  Looks like crystals deep down inside the paint that really blast out of there in direct sunlight.  almost like crystals that no 2 are quite alike.  I really liked the grind graphics like on the last 2 years but this has merit on its own.  I definitely will be getting the red if I do connect with this bike.  i like it well enough and if I wouldn't get stung too badly, (face it, we get stung anytime we trade bikes.  You do get something for the money you spend and the money you lose, but it is just a fact of life.....if it wasnt so, there would be no dealers and we would have no bikes......simple).  It's just about choices.  there yu have it.  pork.

I rode the 2012 Convertible at Sturgis last week also and I concluded that I am just fine with my 2011 windshield. Sure the 2012 is larger but I didn't seem to see
that much difference to justify changing. Plus I like the look of the 10-11, it's much cleaner.

I saw the 2012 Beige softail here at Beartooth Harley and liked the looks of the windshield, so I decided to order the parts book to see if ours could easily be fitted with the 2012 parts without too much hassle.
They had the bike for 3 days and had it sold. the salesman said he had 3 other people wanting to buy it also. He called around and found ( I think in Utah) only one more and it was being sold as he was talking to them.
as an fyi -our dealer here still has a Blue 2011 if anyone is interested.

The dealer have the parts book for the 2012"\'s
The part numbers are for the inner and outer black lexan looking pieces
They are good numbers as stated earlier both my dealer and Harley customer service  gave same numbers
I do know the parts book   is wrong on the numbers for the 2012
my dealer said  that  they will be correcting that
I did not get part number for winshield because I have a juroc  one
My question is  Did this help with the buffeting of wind  to the face from below
These pieces are 68 each

Hey, Mike.  I gave about as good a recount as I could give as I test-rode the bike.  I also did a speech test with the visor up and honestly there was not much difference that I could tell.  But definitely made a difference as far as the wind was concerned.  Eviddently that small oval hole was the result of a windtunnel test and does seem to make a difference.  Sort of when the wind is really blowing and it feels like your helmet is lifting off n your head.....  then you go and open up the vents in the helmet and the whole thing just sort of settles down.  That's the sensation of the turbulence behind the new windshield.    Hope that helps.  Pork.

No, as far as I know it will not fit with the 7" headlight.  remember, this is just a wider, slightly taller version than the original.  Designed to fit into the fairing of the 2010/11/12.  Not a standalone unit.   porky.

I absolutely want the GPS adapter and hookup to add to my winshield, The side fairings look nice and I would hope the can reduce the buffeting and I could discard the HD deflectors.
What are the real part numbers for these items?
I see some confusion on the HD numbers.

I was at the NHRA Nationals yesterday
I seen a Harley dealer  there showing Bikes
I told him its sad how Harley is not reacting to the wind buffiting on the cvo convertible
he said he sold 4 units with no complaints
I told him  he didn't have any cvo covertibles because if he did they be coplaining of it
Its said how they will not admit there wrong
I also have a bid dog coyote and I still like the bike
It,s still better than the harley and they went out of business

I can certainly sympathise with you on that dealer saying nobody is complaining.  Seems to be a trend nowadays that nobody.....that is read "nobody"...........seems to have the integrity to admit their product has some shortcomings.  they just deny that anybody has any problems with whatever they are selling.  It is sad.  guess the bottom line will determine their outcome.  We are still waiting I guess on whether Harley will sell us '10 and '11 owners the new windshield/air diverters, etc.  as soon as someone scores, let us all know, eh????     Pork.

Then he says we are different at our dealership
ya
Tha't the best Harley won't sell us something at list to correct their mistake
I still believe harley has a safety issuse with that wind moving you glasses like that
And why would you want to have a bike that everyone hates the wind buffeting because your to lazy to test before you release to public
This is my last harley
I had it
Harley better wake up and quit worring about their street glide line only
once the babby boombers are gone no young guys will buy them

cannot see what all the grizzling is about, love my small screen, i do not want to look through a screen when i ride, i see over the top of this and i am only 5, 6'.
i came from a softail custom to this bike, so i rode and still ride it without any screen, in fact in australia i think more harley riders ride without a screen than with one.

I enjoy riding without any windshield but when it gets evening time around here we need bug protection and occasionally rain protection. I cannot stand all the buffeting in the ears from the stock inadequate screen and fairing not to mention the wind moving your head to and fro. And, it's worst for the BSR! It's right on the edge of being good and bad unfortunately it's on the side of BAD.

I also, actually, like the look of the newer version as well as it performing far better. I never really did like the look of the stock one it just looks a little too small for the bike. The new version looks like it "belongs" on the bike.

cannot see what all the grizzling is about, love my small screen, i do not want to look through a screen when i ride, i see over the top of this and i am only 5, 6'.
i came from a softail custom to this bike, so i rode and still ride it without any screen, in fact in australia i think more harley riders ride without a screen than with one.
I'm 6'0" tall and my head bobs around like crazy.  I also look over the top.  I can't ride with the stock screen.  I'd rather ride with no screen than that one.

Thanks for ordering RCFlyer, can't wait to hear how that puts together.  Still unsure why the deflector numbers differ from that in the manual.  Also wonder about any holes in the windshield for the GPS bracket but you can always put 3 bolts and acorn nuts there.  Who is Rebecca?

Actually I'm going to order the Zumo mount also.  I already have a GPS unit.  Rebecca took over Jennie's spot at Tri-County Harley Davidson in Ohio.  That's where I get all my parts from.  Here's the link.

I called the dealer they said backorder till 9/23
Whats so hard about making some extrusions
I added some aluminum to the fork deflectors which stopped the wind problem
Doesn't look good but works till you can buy parts
I just hate those fork wind deflectors
They look bad
They work  , had them off three times and put them back on

I'm not sure they'll fit now though as I installed 4 1/2 inch LED driving lights last Sunday.  :-\

How did you use the fog lights with that windshield? I just put those lights on my 2010 and the windshield does not fit. Had to order the new fatboy windshield that accepts those auxiliary lights. 8) Did you do some modification?

GordieHM- I had HD Addict make them for me and yes the stock windshield works fine. Here's a close up of the bracket.

Etudeguy- They do help with the wind. I still might modify the fork deflectors to go all the way up the the fairing and see if that helps even more.

I rode today with the Jurock windshield and it was better with the side deflectors.  Unfortunately I got an oil leak and my oil light came on and the lifters started clattering. After topping off the oil, the bike still ran like SH&^!!  Now I have to figure out what is going on with the engine.  Windshield may be on hold until spring depending on what I find and the weather.  Ill keep you guys posted.  I certainly hope there is no engine damage.  It was a great day until that happened.

It looks like it's coming from the breather tubes.  I think the scavenge pump is shot.  I'm pulling it apart now.  Oil drains from oil tank but never returns.

Yep, scavenge pump is shot.  Front inner cam bearing froze up and spun in case.  Needles took out oil pump.  Looks like I'm SOL the rest of this season.  I'm doing a total tear down.  I won't be evaluating any windshields until next year.

I got all the parts yesterday and installed.  Unfortunately I can't ride to test it yet.  Windshield is just a little wider than the Jurock that I took off.  I really wanted to see if that rectangular hole made a big difference.  Maybe Mr. Warlock can give us a report. Wow, that is good news/  I can hardly wait to hear as I am secretly desiring to just buy a windshield, etc. and stay with the '11.  Part of me wants to move up a year and get the shield, gps/mp3 player combo and part of me wants to just buy the shield/bracket and tell these dealers to go pound sand.  they want to soak you the first year and then the next day tell you your new bike is now worth $10,000 less than they charged you the day before.  Maybe when they get hungry enough, they might have to eat that new '12 for lunch because it sat in their showroom for a year.  Live by the sword, etc......... I have heard a few rumors floating around that they may make some major changes to the '13s as it is the 110th anniversary for Harley, there is very little difference between the now-standard 103 and the SE 110 and other things like that.  I might just wait and take a beating for a '13 that wouldn't be much more than the beating they want to give for a '12.  So, I'm taking this decisision slowly.............just don't want to buy a windshield for my '11 and then tuirn around and buy a '12 just to be disappointed when they do something phenomenal for '13.  Know what I mean, jelly bean???   Pork.

Been following this thread all along and since the parts are now coming in I decided to call Rebecca as mentioned in one of the previous posts and placed my order today.  The only thing I didn't order yet was the Zumo 660 GPS and it's cradle and hardware.  I really like the Convertible but could do without some of the wind buffeting as compared to my 2003 Fat Boy with a king size windshield.  If anybody wires in the 660 let me know if it is "plug n play" or if you have to splice in somewhere.  I know on the Fat Boy I spliced into an ignition operated wire, I think it was a turn signal light, in the harness and powered it that way.  I did see that there is an accessory connector on the 2011 which is under the seat that it might just plug into.

xpanther and jjohn581,  congrats on making the transition.  As well as many other ConV owners, I have been following this thread since it first started.  When I bought the bike I immediately purchased a 7jurock upgraded windshield and don't want to buy another new 2012 windshield if I don't have to.  So my question for you boys is this; is that horizontal slot at the bottom of the new shield necessary?  I assume it allows for better airflow and less turbulence, but if you covered it up on your new assembly would you notice the difference, or is the big improvement a result of the side deflectors?

Any tricks on drilling the holes in the bracket to mount the deflectors?  Since the new windshield is a little wider I will go ahead and put it on the fairing and then look to see where the defectors will go and probably make a template to make the holes the same on each bracket.  Not having seen a 2012 convertible, I am not exactly sure of the location of the deflectors but it looks like you can keep the same slight gap from under the windshield all the way around.  A pic of yours would be helpful.

I did call Rebecca and she is sending me the right screws to mount the windshield bracket.  Very nice to work with.

I just clamped the pieces on and center punched to mark where to drill the holes.  I measured, looked at Porky's pictures and viewed them from many angles before marking.  I then drilled small pilot holes and just kept making the holes bigger until the bolts would just slide through.  Mine lined up perfect.

a couple notes.
Pork.

Windshield would prob work with turn signals on the handlebars however when the signals are activated or on as running lights the reflection from being behind the windshield would be an irritation. Just Sayin. Good looking bike by the way.

The install on the windshield and deflectors went smoothly.  As RCFlyer did, I clamped the piece on the bracket and adjusted it to be evenly spaced.  I did put a piece of tape on the bracket first to easily place a mark then center punched and drilled.  I haven't done a good road test yet but based on the other comments it should help a lot with some of the turbulence issues and other than cost, it's a quick and easy modification.

Finally got the windshield and side deflectors on Saturday evening. Did 154 miles yesterday. It was a good test day because even though we started out with sunshine and what looked to be nothing less than a perfectly cool sunny day - it went to all clouds and quite chilly. I say this because while buffeting is the primary reasoning behind this change it's nice to know that these parts are actually doing the intended job.

The buffeting is gone! even for the BSR, wife is very happy!! The only time I experienced any buffeting was on the highway behind numerous other bikes, trucks and cars, nothing will stop that!

Air flow is completely changed. The only downside I can see at all is that the new airflow directs a small concentrated flow directly at your mouth area (of course depending on your height). Now I actually think in the summer this will be a welcome characteristic if your riding with the windshield on. In any event it did not bother me at all even in the chilly temps.

Height, I am only 5-6 and the top of the shield is just below my plane of vision, perfect for me. The few times my vision dipped below the top I was not annoyed at all with the clear shield.

Turn signals...... I really see no reason to change these. We did end up coming home after dark. The reflection from the turn signals is only on the lower inner fairing (black area) the same as it was before.
Speedometer...... this is the only problem with the whole thing. The glare from the red speedometer glow is right at the top of the windshield (as previously stated by another poster) and extends down 1 - 1 1/2" and is significant. I think that the speedo trim ring will fix this we just need to find the right one.

IMO, parts are doing what is intended and doing it very well, kept us as warm as could be expected on this day.

Again, IMO, I thought the original fairing and screen was too small for the bike and looked kind of cheesy. This new setup looks like the custom piece that it should and I think looks 100% better for this bike. The HD emblem for the Zumo mount also looks awesome!!

I am extremely happy with the whole mess!!

Rick

Ok so I put the deflectors on, it did make a difference not as much as I was expecting.  I have a Jurock shield on now, I would like to cut a hole in it to see if that will help me achieve the results that others have stated.  Has anyone else done this? If so, results?  Would someone be kind enough to give me some dimensions from their shields, size of hole and vertical height from top of fairing.  Thanks in advance.

I am wondering if this can be put on a road king? So a couple of questions:
What is the cut out size for the head light ? Will the Nacelle on the road king be too big?
Or maybe I can adapt the pieces to fit the road king??
I see the part #s for the covers etc. posted, how about the speaker box?
Finally what would make all this fruitless are these parts protected??? Thanks!!

I think your Road King headlight is too big.  Yes, the parts are protected.  Not all of them, but I bet the painted parts are.  They do make a sound system to go into your windshield. Check this one out.

I guess I am a little thick-headed. I own a 2011 Convertible. Love everything about it except for the wind. I have read thru all 10 pages on this thread and I know I want to order the lower wind shields, however, I'm still not sure how they install.
I understand the need to drill the brackets to attach the rear of the shield but how do you secure the front part, the part that is up against the painted fairing?

It seems that I need 4 shields all together, two for each side...is that correct?

Also..have any of you heard of not being allowed to order parts other than what was standard equipment for your year CVO?
In other words, if you own a 2011, you can not order parts from a 2012. And you have to give your VIN number to prove what year you actually own.

That was told to me by a parts guy yesterday, when Rebecca was off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I only have about 50 miles on my ride and I want to ride it badly but at temps in the 30's and 40's here outside of Philadelphia, it's getting cold without better wind protection
Title: Re: the Ultimate Windshield.

Call back when Rebecca is working. Get her email from her and copy and paste the list I posted previously which includes the main windshield and she will take care of you. I doubt she will but if she asks for your vin then give it to her.

The two lower shields go together as one unit when screwing them on. Two holes on each side of the quick fairing bracket.

A note for everyone.......... After you have the lower shields installed and fasteners tightened..... put some vinyl tape (black or silver duct tape) over the screw heads on the inside. This will prevent you from scratching the tree / fork covers when installiong the fairing.

Whoops, sent from my wifes account, lol.

SJR it is an easy modification.  Yes you do need 4 shields, there is a front and back for each side so 4 part numbers.  The shields do not attach to the fairing just the bracket.  As stated by others, you clamp them on the bracket to mark where to drill and you will see an even spacing, about 1/16 of an inch between the fairing and the shields. I put a piece of blue tape on the bracket and it was easy to mark the center of the holes but I did take my time to align the pieces.  Be sure to center punch your mark before drilling and start with a pilot hole.  It really is easy and you will see once you get the pieces how to do it.  Look closely at the pics at the beginning of this thread.

I also saw on some previous posts that some parts are cvo specific.  I too have a 2011 but ordered these from Rebecca and just gave her the part numbers and had no problems.  I ordered everything but the Zumo 660 since it is cold here too and I won't do much riding till the spring and there may be some updates on the Zumo by then.

So I was just wondering......I already placed my order with Rebecca for all the 2012 Windshield parts with the exception of the GPS unit. So, what will the windshield look like?
Will there be a cutout in it where the GPS attaches? That is going to look pretty silly.
Any information from you guys who already did the upgrade will be appreciated.

The GPS bracket goes on the Harley Emblem mount.  If you just put the screws it, it'll be fine.  Hopefully you at least ordered the Harley Davidson emblem that goes on the front.  The slot is below where the mount is.

Ok my backordered part#69200240 the cradle and wiring harness for the Zumo 660 just came in and of course I forgot to order the screws that attach it to the bracket.  Has anybody wired this up yet (I have the 2011 convertible)?  From the drawing, it looks like the cable with the power plug goes through the fairing either in or behind the compartment for the Ipod.  I noticed a grommet on the cable that would allow it to pass though the fairing so you probably have to drill a hole.  Besides the power plug on the end, there is another jack that could be an audio jack? If you have done this I am curious how it would hook up with the existing amp and speakers and Ipod.  Do you need a splitter for the existing power plug on the bike in order to power both the amp and zumo? Thanks.
Title: Re: the Ultimate Windshield.
Post by: xpanther on December 14, 2011, 02:19:27 PM
I cut a slot out of the ipod door for the gromet to fit into. Then with the windshield off i took off the back of the fairing and fed the wires through. There is a small drain hole in the bottom of the fairing back that i drilled out a little and cut the end off of the cable and fed it thru the hole. I then spliced into the wire from the amp which gave me a single connection when removing the windshield. I know it sounds complicated but it is pretty simple and it makes for a clean install.
Title: Re: the Ultimate Windshield.
Post by: jjohn581 on December 14, 2011, 04:30:54 PM
Thanks for the quick response.  I like that idea of splicing into the amp wire for a single connection and I am sure that the Zumo would not really add much load to that circuit.  What about the other cable that I think has an audio jack on the end.  Since you have only 1 input to the existing amp, you would not be able to use both the zumo and Ipod at the same time or if you were playing tunes off the Ipod it would not be interrupted with directions from the zumo.  I guess you could always just use the built in mp3 player on the zumo and still hear both.

I am using the mp3 recordings on the Zumo.  I like it much better because it comes on when you start the bike and goes off when you shut down.  The other thing is you don't have to charge it

Willie,

Join the club. I have been looking for one ever since they added the speakers. It seems the only hope is to find someone who really hates the look and/or the poor wind protection of the stock one and goes with a standard fatboy shield. I would have ordered the retrofit parts but it's just a bit too pricey for what you wind up with. For that money you could get something custom done which is certainly one way to go.

Ahh - I see. You might have better luck as there as a couple of guys on the board have swapped their 2011 winshield to the wider 2012 one with the lowers.

I am looking for an entire 2012 assembly (assuming it will fit on the 2010 mounting points) and paint the colored part to match the inferno orange. A 2011 would do but I would still have to do the windshield swap for a 2012 with the lowers. If I get one of these and wind up not using the 2011 screen I will let you know.

When you say better speakers, what do you mean?  Did you find some speakers that fit the Harley fairing?  The Harley ones are $60.00 ea and about $68.00 ea for the grilles. Then you need to spend about another $10.00 ea for the trim rings.

Better speakers in the sense of I purchased a set of Polk Audio DXi350 speakers with a 3 1/2 inch magnet compared to the HD's itty bitty magnet.  I paid $60 for the pair. Details are:
3-1/2" 2-way car speakers (pair)
polymer/mica composite woofer with butyl rubber surround
1/2" liquid-cooled silk/polymer composite dome tweeter
Neodymium tweeter magnet
built-in 2-way crossover network
certified for marine use
includes a pair of 200 Hz bass blockers
power range: 2-35 watts RMS (105 watts peak power)
frequency response: 90-22,000 Hz
sensitivity: 91 dB
top-mount depth: 1-9/16"

They rock! And, yes, they fit nicely in the HD inner fairing.  My husband had to do a little modification on one side but no big deal. We used the HD trim rings and paid way too much for the grills. What a rip off they were but still we did okay.

I am short but went with the OEM 2012 windshield dimensions.  If you have a height/width in mind let me know and I'll pass it on.  I also entertained adding Clearview's vent but it made the windshield look too busy.  They are going to play with it or do a work around. I will post pics when I get it back.  I will also provide pics of what the magnets on Polk Audio speakers look like, the modification of the inner fairing piece for the Polk Audio speakers, etc. While I am waiting for the windshield to be made I have my bike at Gunslingers Custom Paint Shop. Gunslinger painted all of our ConVs. They are the best and are painting hard saddlebags to match the design on the burgundy-colored 2010 CVO.  With any luck both projects will be completed at the same time and I will be able to post all of the mods I have made thus far. Thanks to the advice the 2010 owners on this forum gave me, my bike should be fabulous. I cannot wait to get Saphira back.  :huepfenlol2:

I finally received all of the parts from Rebecca this weekend and completed the install. As is often the case, once you have all of the parts laid out in front of you, you can easily see how everything fits together.
I was a little nervous at first when I began drilling, but took the advice others gave regarding starting with the smaller bits and working up to the right size.
I am happy with the appearance, but I have not road tested it yet. I have enclosed some pictures.

Just added the 2012 lower wind deflectors and a Cee Baily 22" wind screen with slight recurve to my 2011 Conv. What a freakin difference that made. I can finally hear the speakers; even on the highway. $290 for four peices of plastic and 4 screws seems a little steep but it made a huge differnce. I always wear a hemet, sometimes a full. The wind buffeting was so bad I wanted to go back buy my ultra back from the dealer. Problem solved and took less than an hour to make the adjustments.

It home and what a difference that windshield made. No more buffeting, could here the stereo
At 75 mph etc. I put it on mine to see how it fit with my ape hangers
And it was perfect. Can't wait to install it.

Any pictures???

Sorry about the sideways pics. Not sure why they're like that.
I did not order the GPS mount so I had to grind the posts down on the emblem, cut about half the screw length
Off and got some rubber and chrome washers at the hardware store. Does look bad at all.

Thanks,  looks good.  Do you happen to have any part numbers for what all you got?  Sorry to be a pain in the rear but it makes it simpler to look things up.  LOL   I'm thinking my wife if going to do all this to her bike when she sees your pic's.

Sk8convict, thanks, great info.  So all in it cost you about $485?  Worth the cost?

Sk8convict, MoCo relocated the turn signal on the 2012 models to the fork and I notice yours are still up on the 2011 stock location at the bars.  I assume they did this to reduce the windshied glare caused by the lights.  Now that you have the new shield, do you notice any excessive glare with the lights on the bars?  Do you think you will relo the lights down to the fork?

I have aftermarket ape hangers on mine.
We did order a shield for the speedometer to cut that red glare across the top of the windshield.
My wife didn't notice hers on her 2012 until I pointed it out. Doh

Her ya go
I coming to the party a little late but still have some questions you guys can help with. The part numbers listed on that receipt Do Not match the numbers I wrote down from the PDF file. All Im trying to do right now is the "Willie Wings". I have part #
(4) 923 Screws
(1) 57400100
(1) 57400101 outer deflectors
(1)57400102
(1)57400103 Inner deflector
Are these numbers and quantitys correct? Any other screws needed?

Looks like they changed the parts numbers from when I ordered them. They were 57400130, 57400131, 57400132 & 57400133.  The screws are the same.  This fit my 2011 convertible and is a huge improvement.

Your numbers were correct. All on order. I went with the Jurock windshield. I hope it works ok with the wind deflectors.

Acevtwin, let us know how the Jurock screen works out.  I'm thinking of doing the same thing.  What height Jurock screen did you order?

It is a +3" over stock. 18" total maybe? I should get it by the weekend. Not sure how long the "Willie Wings" will take to get here.

I got the windshield installed. It is a 17", 3" over the stock 14". It works pretty good. Now that I have the willie wings on, the stock set up looks like it was missing something without them. It really is a "must do" upgrade for all of you that have the 2010 or 2011.

Looks real good - I opted to use the Harley windshield since I liked the GPS mount but that Jurock looks great if you don't want that.

Its a huge difference. No head buffeting at all. You do still get some updraft. But then again im coming of a SEEG with fairing.
