Headlight Pigtail
« on: February 07, 2015, 11:04:47 PM »

Does anyone know where I can purchase a headlight pigtail 2005 seeg...cherry? Local stealership told me that the only way to get it is to purchase a complete harness. I'm a master diesel tech...wonder what my customers would think of me if I said that to them...I've got Jimmy holding it together for now. You know Jimmy Riggin. But my Plastic connector melted and I need a pigtail and Harley uses larger connectors than automotive components :carrot:

As a Diesel mechanic myself and one who just saw that meltdown on my Cherry, here is what I did. The bike has two of those connectors, one is added for
the garage door module, I removed the added/melted connector and soldered the wires from the door module to the headlight wires, done deal, better than stock.

Go to your local auto parts store and buy the plug like mentioned above. Cut out the old, and splice in the new.

You could also order the 1-2 headlight pigtail used in the old Road Glides.  With that you gain an extra headlight plug for the GDO.  But it's still easier and cheaper to just use the parts store pigtails and make your own.

Thanks all...I went out for a ride today and went by stealership. They now have a new parts guy and I checked with him and he came up with individual parts and all was correct and I payed less than $7.00. All I have to do is install plastic connector, crimp connectors on wires, seat connectors in plastic connector and install on headlight bulb. It ticks me off that the old parts guy was trying to confidence me to purchase a complete harness.

Perhaps the old parts guy was trying to con you into buying something you don't need, or perhaps it's just another case of the all-to-common situation in Harley dealerships, a totally incompetent dealership employee showing his ignorance or lazy nature, or both.

Or lack of knowledge of how to read a computer screen.  Which would be his or hers managers fault for improper training.
