My Nanner's new LED lights
« on: September 18, 2014, 10:58:37 AM »

I just switched all of the lights on my beloved nanner to LED's and I took a while to get the headlight aiming done.  Once I had that dialed in I noticed that my light would reflect back off of the reflective tape on truck rear doors etc. every time I hit a small bump in the road.  Further inspection showed me that the chrome retainer ring was not tight up against the headlight and that there was just a bit of play.  I made up an o-ring to fit around the headlight and eliminate this play.  This worked quite well until recently, where I noticed that the bouncing light beam has returned.  Closer inspection this time (outer fairing removal) has shown me that nearly all of the brackets that hold the fairing to the bike are broken due to fatigue.  Glad I checked.  I am posting so that you guys can check yours if you see the same symptoms.

Common issue with the "older" brackets.  Replacements are supposed to be better but many have just "fixed" them with a piece of angle iron.  Did mine about 5 years ago and no problems since.

Yeah, I see that the brackets that run out towards the speakers are broken as well.  Any backyard fix for that one??

Second photo shows tie bar tying both sides together. Welded ears on a tube the exact dimension between the two and bolted it in place. Nice and rigid.
