Need help on shipping bike
« on: June 03, 2005, 02:47:29 PM »

I want to go to Street Vibrations at Reno in Sept.

Can't get time off to ride the 2600 miles there or the over 6k mile round trip.

Have tried Federal, United, Allied and Dirks for a good rate.

It's OMG high! $750 each way is the best price I got from the above companies.

Doesn't matter if it goes out in August and doesn't come home till the first of October.

I was hoping for a price a whole lot lower.

Anyone got any ideas? If so give me a phone# or web address please.

Shipping will be from Harley Davidson of Charlotte   zip 28105
to Freedom Cycles in Reno   zip 89511

hey Chip, I'll ride it out to Reno for you and ride it back for half that price.  Or, I'll do one way if you want to ride one way.   [smiley=shifty.gif]  Har!  spyder    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

How about shipping it there and riding it back?

Did you try advertising the need in the local college newpaper?  You could get some college kid that wants to get home cheap to ride it out there for ya for the price of gas!  We used to do it all the time with our cars when I was staioned on the east coast and the family was on the west coast...  Don't know if I'd turn my baby loose with some kid, but you might interview them and find a good one?!?

Hmmm...  Yup!  No offense taken!  As I recall, we only did that with cars that we would be okay with NOT showing up, so the insurance would pay off, and wierdly enough, they all showed up clean, in good shape, and on time....  Hence the caveat...   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

However, what about shipping by rail in a factory box?  We did that to Sturgis one year, (got a pallet from the dealer, strapped the bike on, built the box around it, and shipped like a box of parts), and it was only a couple hundred bucks...   Kind of a pain in the ass at the end 'cause we had to store the pallet to ship it all back, but it was dirt cheap...  comparatively speakin' that is...

Still working on something.
1500 is lots of bucks to do the round trip.

Thinking bout shipping it with one of the Busch race teams going to Ca.

Talked with Rick at Freedom bout a drag team from somewhere close here going to a race in Reno.

Have a few weeks to ponder.

It's just not worth 1500 plus plane flight cost to see JCZ.

A grand maybe but not 15. [smiley=nervous.gif]

I'll call Sid (Hotrodstitcher) who has bought and sold several motorcycles and had them shipped from around the country, lately.

Do we have anybody else that's going to make it to the West Coast GTG and Street Vibrations in Sept. in Reno?  103 tHunDer? Twolane?  Hubbard, how about you and your road dogs?

Ya know, I might look the other way if you guys could get one trailer big enogh for four or five bikes for a group of you to make it out here for this event.  [smiley=nervous.gif]  I'll guarantee no rain in Reno during this event and will deliver all the "hot" that you can handle.  You guys can share the fuel and motel expense for the guy driving the towing vehicle for maybe a couple hundred each.......then, it's just the plane ticket.  Come on guys, you can pull it off.
