Anyone use their stock 110 crank in a 117 build without cracking the cases and getting the crank worked over?
-
While my cases were split for the lefty upgrade I asked the Indy if it was worth doing up the crank at the same time, he said if I’m not going for 140hp+ then it’s a waste of money. But he would be more than willing to take my money, haha!
He builds / races boosted HDs and is highly respected in this end of the country.

You will find a mix of us who have used stock crank vs those who have went aftermarket. You will find some still running stock that have had no issues at the 125hp level and some that have destroyed the stock at the stock hp level. See where your crank is now and go from there was my route. Checked it at .003 and left it there. It might fail tomorrow on me but right now we are at around 15,000 miles on the 117 at 125/125 with the stock crank. Others experience may be it failed before they could get it running

my 113 at 35000 miles went to 117 and both rods were stiff and walked the bearing in the case . so new s&s crank and new SE cases . just do it and feel good . add an s&s oil pump while your at it . 25 psi at idle 30 psi heading down the road . mine is making 134tq and 141hp and I don't have to worry

I bought my kit from Suburban speed and they said the new cranks are a lot better and they would use the stock crank if it where there bike. I’m loving the new power but still questioning weather I should have just stepped up and been done with it. So far it seems good to go, but I have only ridden it twice so far.

X-2 , have 17,000 on mine 136/121. Forgot to ask my HD tech if he checked it, figured it's under warranty if I had an issue.

Mine is apart right now, crank is at .001 so I am not doing anything to the bottom end.

all depends on how you ride and where your at initially. my bike 2016 cvo streetglide with 8000 hard miles. yes i beat the crap out of my bike. when i did my build i was at .005 so to be safe i went ahead and installed the p3r crank. .001 now. my buddies 16 road glide special he rides harder than me. i dont do clutch dumps he does, when i installed his cams his crank was at .007 hes not worried. that seems high. other friend .004 on a 14 street glide. so as you can see the numbers are everywhere. the newer cranks are not better than the older ones. friends 01 heritage big bore kit and does burn outs and beats the crap out of it .002 with 50k on motor

The cranks may have more press but the rods still pinch. S&S has a drop in fix. P3r too for double the cost.

When I had my 117 build I called Bob Wood (Wood Cams) and Rick Ward (Ward Performance). Rick did my heads. Both told me not to bother with a new crank. Right now I have 8000 miles on the 117 kit with no issues. I don't do burnouts and don't race anyone from a dead start, always a 10 or 20 mph roll. Also, I seldom drag race, but it does happen occasionally. ;D

I ride in a similar fashion. I use the power once I'm already moving on the road. There's the occasional aggressive take-off, but its never with the bike sitting there redlined and then dumping the clutch. My friends do that, but I still beat em' :) I still did an S&S crank for the peace of mind.
