Anyone else had this problem? The black anodized tip on the right side Rinehart slipon got lighter and lighter on a recent long trip until it ultimately turned even lighter than the photo. I had about 1K miles on it before the trip with no issues. About 500 miles into the trip I noticed it beginning to turn a rusty color. It finally settled in a bright gold color.
I contacted Bub customer service and apparently this is not an uncommon problem because they are replacing both slipons with ones that have a new Teflon finish on the tips.

I know on the Rinehart TD's the tips will turn purple after awhile, but that's the first time I've ever seen one turn gold. They would go good w/someone that had a '03 SERK as long as both turned that color. ;D

See what happens when you try to replace chrome

SoKoolJ,
I have the same issue on the tips except that I have true duals and it was the rear cylinder pipe that did this. Bub has already sent me replacement tips, I just have to install them this week. I richened up the bike since this started and I think I will be fine now with the new tips. ok so I am hoping !

Same thing happened to my RineHart 2-1 on my 110.
Sawzalled that sucka off and went to the FatCat 2-1/TMAT/K&N oil filter/Royal Purple engine oil
and the bike runs mucho coller!

Actually those members that have the SEEG in B/B they coordinate nicely with their bikes when they turn that color.

Guess I'm not the only one! :-\ the left one has turned to a reddish-gold. Looks bad on the 01 blue SERG. Spoke with Rineahart and they said they would report it to the warranty department. But no replacement yet. :nixweiss:
-
Had the same thing happen on my 02 RK. Left cap turned purple. Never seen a gold one, might be cool looking. Waiting on a replacement cap for the SEULTRA now, same problem.
-
I saw a SEEG that did the exact same thing at the dealership......

I like the gold one better ::) .
Sorry you'll have a bit of work to do to correct the deficiency though. Good luck on the next set staying correct.

wow I'd buy a set if they can guarantee me the tits will turn purple :huepfenjump3:

Good news! I got my replacement today. Bad news. When I placed it next to the right side, it looks like its turning reddish color too. Oh well, at least I now how that all important account with Bub. ::)
And I agree, good luck turning them purple ;)

Hey Gary hows about us 02 SERK guys.We could use a nice purple tip. I would pay for an anodized version or powdercoated if they offered it. Later,Q

The right side on my scoot turned purple as well...RH is replacing, but it'll happen again. I really like the black tips, but am tempted to go chrome.
Eastern Performance sells some nice Black Powder Coated Grooved Billet caps for the RH...also come in chrome, and a downslash version.

They eventually evened out on the 02 RK, Terry. Sort of a blueish tinted black. Considering the chrome caps as well.

Don't know why RH doesn't just powder coat them, or do them in Black Ceramic...the anodized version does not work well. Oh well, got a new one coming, and if they'll keep replacing them, I'll let 'em.

Noticed one of mines is starting to turn purple. :( What procedure did you use to have it replaced, and would mines being almost 3 years old have any significance in the warranty replacement?

Guess Bub just re-anodizes them and ships 'em again.
A friend of mine painted his end caps black - spray can. Not Rineharts - some aftermarket slip on. His spray can black looks better than the Bub anodized black. I am almost tempted, but not quite.......
-
d00d - since yours are 3 years old, I would call BUB directly and explain the problem. Figure they will make it right. Currently they are backlogged some on end caps (go figure).

Black grill (the kind you cook on) paint would probably work, Mike. But then how would you keep from painting inside the Rhinehart script?
Check these out...what do you think?

Those look great, black powdercoat would be less likely to turn.
Easiest way to keep from painting inside the script would be a light coat of vaseline in the lettering. Use a Q-tip or toothpicks to clean it out.
-
My RH tips also turned purple - I had never noticed this on other RH's that I'd seen. However, a buddy says they all do it. At any rate, I reported it to RH and a replacement set arrived yesterday. It would be nice if RH would address this problem.

Terry,
Funny you should mention these, the brown truck just dropped off a set of chrome ones today. I will post some pictures once I get them on the bike.

They also make a slash down chrome version that I think looks nice as well. Will look forward to seeing the pics... :2vrolijk_21:

I saw those as well. Wasted a day at work trying to decide which ones to get. I kept hearing d00d in the back of my head saying, "get both, get both." He's like a little OCD devil sitting on your shoulder. :devilish:

Hey BigDaddy, I can't believe yours haven't turned the purple color yet.......I get compliments all the time on my 'matching' exhaust tips on the B/B SEEG. You need to trade out w/ someone that has had them turn purple to match your bike. :huepfenlol2: har! spyder

Bub just shipped me new ones and they seem to be staying the same color this time :) /phew ...
only took about 20 minutes to swap em out and they were nice enough to send new screws with them as well.
If you need to call up there ask for Linnea or Brad her assistant.
