Was going to order brake pads this evening. Have used DP pads. Found out upon starting to order, however that they have a new part for 05 and newer that didn't exist the last time I got pads last fall.
Old number that had been right for awhile was DP918. New number is DP957. Have the 918s on the bike now. Just wondering if anyone knew what the difference is? Haven't been able to find anything so far.

Twolanerider my man, please give me your take on the DP brake pads; less dust better breaking performance etc. Is it worth changing them out if stock HD pads are still good? Thanks from a fellow wacko

Ridefar I really can't give any quantitative measure for dust. I just know there's less of it. And what there is is less sticky. At least it doesn't stay on the wheels as bad and wipes off easier. For appearance's sake a real improvement.
So far as braking is concerned I'm confident that the stock pads fade sooner. Again, no quantitative measure. But I've taken the same bike through the twisties immediately before and after a pad change. Working the brakes hard. Less fade with the DP pads.
So far as overall longevity is concerned; I really don't know. Sorry. I've only been through a couple sets of them. I know I've not been surprised by any short life span. So they must be doing ok. But I just didn't pay that much attention to detail over the long haul.
I'd put them on just for the less mess and easier clean up. To me it seemed a really noticable difference.

I mis-spoke on my previous post (now corrected). The Lyndall is a carbon/kevlar pad. Does anyone have knowledge of a ceramic pad for Harleys? Ceramics are great on cars, might be a plus on bikes as well.

It makes no sense (to me) to take the back tire off again in five thousand miles so I always change back pads with back tires even if the pads aren't quite worn out yet.

TLR, did you order/receive/install these yet? Where did you order them from. May as well do pads on mine when the new tire goes on. They are still within the service limit, but worn more than the fronts and anything to help keep the dirt prone rear wheel cleaner is a plus.

WTF, DP's website only shows the FLHTCSE2 (2005). There's no difference between the '04s and '05s in the area of brakes, right?

The DP918's are great, I have been using them for 5 years now with no problems. Had them on my RK with Polished Rotors and wide whites, very min dust (Kept My Whites White!) Put them on the S/E when I got it, has 9000 miles now and the pads look very good. I don't use the rear much, they look like new, frts about 50% gone. But who told this guy he had to take the wheel off to replace the pads?
Look again buddy, pads are a simple thing on our bikes.

I am hard-headed, I guess, but as a matter of principle, I refuse to call them back and beg them to take my money. I sent them an e-mail relaying my post above. It will be interested to see if I get a response and what it says if I do.

I really like the way the lyndall sound from the pr on them. anyone put em on? I may get a set for the front and see if they get some more bite which would be nice. JP [smiley=banana.gif]

Surprisingly, I came home to an e-mail from Chicago H-D today. They extended a very sincere apology for what happened and actually offered to sweeten the pot on my next order (well, make that my first order) from them. Not too bad, considering I never really expected to hear from them.
My confidence has been restored, at least for the time-being. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
