Title: Boom! Half Helmet Headset Problems?
Post by: bikerboy53 on September 30, 2009, 03:08:49 PM
Has anybody else tried the new Boom! Audio Half Helmet Headsets? You can see them at:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448774057&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302290635&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302290635&bmUID=1254336860406&bmLocale=en_US

I bought two of them so my BSR and I can listen to music and talk easier on the road. On our first trip both headsets conked out!  ??? We hadn't even gone 300 miles and the right speaker stopped working or only works intermittently with a lot of static when it cuts in and out. Both units developed the same problem within a few miles of each other. One of them will sometimes work correctly for a few miles, but then it starts acting up again. I tried switching the headsets to see if it's a bike problem or the headset, and it's definitely the headsets.

Has anyone tried the J&M part number HS-ICD284-HHU-HO? Or is there another better solution for half helmets?

TIA

Sorry you had those problems.  I'm also in the market for a bike-to-bike system so my wife and I can talk (mainly to keep her from falling asleep on 500 mile trips).  All the choices and claimed capabilities just confuse my pea-sized brain.  Some help, any help on the subject is appreciated   :nixweiss:

I wear a half helmet as well and I find the standard H-D headset works very well when attached such as in the photo below... Not wanting to mess with the supplied tiny speakers, I simply cut off them off and turn my speaker switch on my dash to the down position and listen through the fairing speakers.

Works great for me.
