key and fob
« on: May 29, 2016, 04:02:00 PM »

Took my bike out for the first time this year today, and lost the keys - it's a '14, so that's the security fob, plus the key with the lock/unlock buttons.  :(

Anyone had to replace theirs?  Cost? Part numbers?

Wouldn't even be so bad except the ONLY key I have for my security cable gizmo was with them. It's an HD one - older version of 46090-98A - and there's no key number anywhere on it.

Thanks Jerry - I knew they weren't going to be cheap!   >:(   I seem to recall they have the two in one on the '16 models.  Wonder if one of those will work?

A scandalous $240 for the pair over here....

Where do I find the key code?

No keycode anywhere that I can find - not on the spare keys, not on any documentation that I got from the dealer.  Anyone know how to find it?  If I'm going to order one in the US, I don't want to be asking the dealer here for it, and I can't use my VIN instead if ordering in the US.  The choice is obvious - example US price (Surdyke) $72.84, UK price $154.65......

Unfortunately no, the 2016 system won't directly retrofit.

I assume you still have the second set of keys and fobs (all bikes are delivered with two sets).  There should be a key code label or something attached to them, if your dealer did his job correctly.  If not, the dealer should be able to look up the information in his files, assuming he doesn't throw everything away once the customer walks out the door.  I wouldn't feel the least bit bad about making your dealer do a little work finding the code for you and then ordering the actual parts from someone else, if he didn't bother to give you the key code tag during the initial delivery of the bike as per proper delivery procedure.

Yes, have the second set of keys - no tag. :-(  I'll email them to ask for the code.  Thanks again Jerry.

Not on this type of key - the plastic that the keyring goes through is not removable - it covers the electronics and battery for the lock/unlock buttons.

How typical HD!  But wouldn't work for me - wouldn't come with the right kind of key...

Open up the battery compartment of the fob and see if perhaps they put the code in there somewhere.   :nixweiss:

I lost mine for my 2015. Dealer gets the code from vin #. Both alarm fob and key fob need to be programed to the bike. I was charged for parts only. Good luck if you start looking for them. Each time I rode the route that I lost mine on, all I saw was trash and dirt.

Been up and down the entire route 3 times, and the same trash and dirt is all I see...  :(

Yup. I figure someone has found  mine and is going to try every Harley he comes across to see if he can get 1 to start and go for a ride. Or someone ran them over and smashed them into pieces.
