Supermeg questions

My old Road Glide will get a little engine work over the winter.  Will likely do new pipes as well.  It has Fatcats that have both begun to show their age a little on the can and the heat shields it's gotten louder too.  It's not obnoxiously terrible but it is noticeably louder than a few years ago.  I also tolerate it less than I used to.

Have heard but never ridden the Supermegs.  Like the look visually/aesthetically and riding behind them they seem quieter than the Fatcats.  A couple questions for anyone with actual butt in the saddle experience though:

Right side -- what's clearance between the loop of rear pipe and the inside of your right leg?  With the Fatcats I have to always consciously be just a little bow legged or the inside of the knee and leg can get toasty.  If anyone has actually ridden both for comparison that's even better.  Still definitely interested in perceptions of clearance though.

General fit and finish -- anything unexpected with installation?  Up close do they look as nice as they seem to from 15 or 20 feet?

How is the ride -- As one would expect with any good 2-1 or anything unusual or unexpected about their performance characteristics?

Don - Here is my 2008 RG with the 2-1 Supermeg.  Easy install and pretty easy on the ears. Pretty mellow at cruise and a little bark under throttle. It tuned fine (Steve at GMR in Dallas) with 11 disk as I remember.  I'm running a mild build and am very happy with the performance and fit & finish.  The chrome has held fine - no rust or discoloration.  Absolutely no leg issues  with the headpipe on the right side.  Hope this helps.

Don, the newer versions of D&D as well as Drago pipes the rear cylinder pipe no longer has the bowed out pipe like ours it comes straight down. Much better for us short legged folks. I'm just to cheap to buy another just for that although I'm tempted. If you're like me you have the burn marks on the back of your right leg. The pic of the Super Meg appears to stick out then go straight down. :nixweiss:

I never ran a FatCat (way too loud) so I can't offer a comparison, but I do have a SuperMeg on the Cherry SEEG and I'm totally satisfied with it.  Since I'm rarely totally satisfied with anything per my wife, that is a pretty glowing report.  The fit and finish are top notch, installation was straightforward, and the sound level as you know is easily adjusted by adding or subtracting disks.  I resisted going with a 2 into 1 for a long long time due to the unbalanced look on a bagger, but now I kick myself for not doing it sooner.  As Rooster noted, there is no issue with clearance for my right leg to the pipe, either riding or with my foot on the ground.

Don, I had the Supermeg on my SEEG. Great pipe, great fit and finish and best of all not obnoxiously loud. I has also install many on customers bikes, all have loved the pipe.

Thanks to everyone.  The pics and the on-bike and install guidances were very helpful.  Mine has enough years on the appearance and enough extra bark it's gained over miles it's likely time to replace why the rest of the work gets done.  Appreciate it  :2vrolijk_21: .

Supermegs work good. Usually enhance torque, without leaving more than 3 or so HP on the table.

Thanks John.  With the other benefits never going to worry about a small loss a good tuner might measure but that I'll never feel in the seat of the pants.

Will do.  Ordered the cam plate kit last night and a set of roller rockers this morning.  That will have everything in hand needed for the task.  Then just have to find the time to get it done.
