2019 CVO Limited/Interesting Sound
« on: October 31, 2018, 08:09:57 PM »

Okay guys and gals. New 2019 117 I have an interesting sound at shutdown that sounds like air releasing. I believe it has been doing this the whole time but I got to ask. I have 2000 Miles on the bike it has been running great. I’m just checking to see if this sound or event is Normal.
Last week I noticed the compression releases stay open until the bike is running and was told that is normal. I called my dealer to ask about the sound at shut off but he couldn’t give me an answer until tomorrow. The sound occurs immediately after shutdown and it sounds like a whirring wind down. Coming from the area of the Throttle body.
If this is a new compression release designed into the bike it’s a great thought by Harley

Just in case, I did some more follow up with the dealer and sent them my short video clip. It is believed to be a normal issue and bleed off of compression when it shuts down on an open intake valve. Noise is definitely coming from the throttle body. They have sent the video clip to Mother MOCO for further confirmation.

That's not a bad idea, they have been known to have bad valve seat installation from the factory, I haven't given it much thought but after thinking about it now I do, my bike now has 3900+ miles on it 2 months old today

I wonder what the odds are of the engine always coming to rest at exactly the point where the intake valve is just barely open (can't be open much or any pressure would be released quickly and you wouldn't hear the noise as you described it).  I think I'd be doing a leakdown test to make sure the valve isn't leaking all the time.  The fact that another bike does the same thing wouldn't make me feel better, it could just mean both bikes have the same poor seating of one or more valves.
