103 88B Engine 124'' Kits
« on: February 17, 2019, 04:54:58 PM »

Fellas I have been exploring different route for a build on my bike now for a little over a year.  Getting ready to pull the trigger on something here soon.  Many thanks to the people that sent me info and commented on my trends in the past.  I have a 2005 Fatboy CVO has a 103 88B Engine , with a few mods cams, TTS Tuner, intake throttle body, injectors, and alittle head work.  What do you all think a about a 124'' hot set up kit from S&S.  I know the obvious case boring involved and all that good stuff.  Does any one have any experience with is kind of build PRO & CONS??  This bike is not my everyday bike.  Looking to build something rough and tuff.  For the price of the kit am I better off just buying a hole motor from S&S 124''??.  Id like to be in the 150 Horse Power range after the build I choose.  If any one has a suggested parts list or builds they recommend please share. Again fellas thanks for looking and commenting in advance and any information is much appreciated.  Ride Safe!!

Harley has a 120R in a pre-'06 primary bolt pattern that's a "B" motor.  There's been one on eBay lately for around $7000.  It's a complete long block without alternator, intake etc.  They are asking $6399.99 and local pick up only, Chardon OH.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davidson-120R-SE-Pro-Performance-Twin-Cam-Motor-19290-12-01-06-Softail/332899681013?epid=12026330133&hash=item4d825e02f5:g:PKEAAOSwQFNb-FVU:rk:5:pf:0

I have a future project that I will be starting out with a "B" motor in the '02 or '01 range as they have the Timken left side bearing to begin with.  Once proven out in the car, I may also be looking at the 124" Hot Setup to give it more punch later on.

I don't think S&S makes a "B" motor, just the innards and upper end to my knowledge.

I'll be following this post with interest to see what others offer in the line of suggestions.

Good luck with your project.

You won't get 150/150 using the hot setup as it comes
You'll need a little headwork and a little more compression than they offer
But certainly not difficult to do
Better off piecing it together than just buying a kit and changing out parts

build your motor to 124" using componants that will fit your riding style & expectations, instead of a hot set up kit.
