Rinehart performance baffles installed
« on: May 08, 2007, 08:21:00 AM »

Recently had performance baffles installed in my Rinehart's.  These baffles are "slightly" quieter than stock.  Here's the before/after dyno numbers.

Before:  91.28 HP    108.87 torque
After:    94.92 HP    113.46 torque

Not sure if the increase was due to the baffles or a better tune.  :nixweiss:

The performance baffles are larger diameter than the standard baffles, wouldn't this be louder than stock? Did you measure it?  The reason I asked is because I had them on my SERK and the reason I purchased them was for more noise.  If they are quieter, I sure wasted the hundred bucks.

Don't know if it has changed recently,

2" baffle = Quiet
2 1/4" was the stock
2 1/2" performance baffle

My performance baffles, and others that I know of, are noticeable louder than the stock baffles.

I talked with one of the tech guys at Bubs before ordering and he told me the performance baffles were quieter than stock.  They do seem to be a little quieter but barely noticeable.

I recently had Reinharts  true duals with the perfomance baffle installed.  I heard them before with the standard baffle and  there was very little or a slight decibel increase in the loudness of the pipes.  The difference seams to be more at idle low RPM. I heard some people say it's more like a old muscle car sound and I agree.  I really like the sound and have many of my riding buddies tell me they sound awesome.  And don't forget the couple of extra hp abd torque you get with them. 8)

2 1/4" comes with the Rineharts.

Others are sold separately.

According to what I read here as well as what a tech at Bub told me, yes the performance baffles are slightly quieter than stock.  I added the quiet baffles and noticed more tq @ lower rpm's as a result.  But to call them 'quiet' is not really accurate.  They are less noisy but still rumble nicely.

List price is around $110 for the quiet or the performance baffles.  If you check around - Ebay, etc. you may find them for less.  I got mine from the dealer for 89 as I recall.  Rinehart changed /baffle configuration about 2 years ago - different baffles than their original pipe so be sure you are getting an 07 style baffle.

I don't have the newest ones, but the performance baffles I have are the 2 1/2's.   I have one set in the roadking and I have a set sitting in cabinet.   They are by no means QUIETER than the 2 1/4's.   Even with the 88 motor that was in the roadking it was louder than the ultra with the 2 1/4 baffles.

Almost sounds like they are selling the 2" as the performance baffle due to it adds some back pressure and allows for more torque.   In the past the 2 1/2 baffles hurt you a slight bit on the bottom end and gave more on the top end.

Be interesting to figure out exactly whats what on this, because I was considering buying the quieter baffles for touring and expecting to pickup some torque in the low end.

This thread is confusing too.   From what unbalanced said, and the way I understand it, you will get more ooomph with the smaller diameter baffle on the TD's.  (2.0").  If you want high end, it's the (2.5") but sacrifice a little bit o low end.

So, to straitghten this out, is BUB selling the performance baffle as the larger diameter?, or the 2.0 diameter??? It comes stock wioth the 2.25" units.

Yes, the 2.5" are the performance baffles.

,

On the 07 version there is no 2 1/2 but this was the performance baffle for pipes made pre 07 pipes.

On the 07's there are 3 baffles

The stock one is the 2 1/4"
The quiet one is the 2" baffle this has a chuck in the center of it that adds some back pressure
The performance baffle is also a 2 1/4 baffle like stock with a welded chuck in the center that lets a bit more air pass through it.    These are all 3 screw baffles where as the 2 1/2 baffle is a 2 screw baffle and will not work in the 07 models.

Pre 07 pipes
2 inch baffle quiet
2 1/4 baffle standard
2 1/2 baffle performance
