Harley Touring Mufflers
« on: July 04, 2007, 10:15:35 PM »

I am wondering if anyone has tried the Harley Touring Mufflers (part #65259-00 on page 567 of the '07 Harley Catalog) on a 103" SE touring bike?  Are they much louder than stock?  If so, how much?  I'm currently running the V&H Dresser Duals and the V&H Ovals on my '06 CUSE but would like something not as loud, but something louder than stock.  Thanks, guys.

Can't help you with the Harley Touring mufflers, but if you do decide to go with them, are you going to sell your Ovals?  If so, let me know.  I'm interested.  Thanks.

DakotaZeb,
if I read the description correctly that part no. does not fit an 06, only up to 05.  The one above it in the catalong (part no. 80463-06) is for
an 06....they call it the catalyst model for fuel injected models(?).

I have the V&H ovals with D&D true duelies on my 05 SEEG but have not decided what to put on the new SEUC (06) I just got.  It is currently bone stock and I must admit the wife and I like the quiet
stock mufflers.  I will certainly change them when I put on true duals and a tuner but can't decide yet which ones to go with.  If you go with the HD's please let us know how you like them.
thanks

I had the Harley Touring Mufflers on my 05 Glide when I did the 95" build. They are a little louder than stock, I switched to RH True Duals and thats all I use on my Harley's now.

Dakota,

Unless my mind is more screwy than usual, those are the mufflers that came on the '05 SEEG.  In terms of sound level, they are slightly louder than the stock '05 mufflers, nice and mellow at cruise and a decent bark when you nail the throttle.  I changed mine out for the SE Pro one piece muffs, but I'm seriously thinking about going back to the Touring mufflers.  I think you'd give up more than a little flow compared to the V&H ovals, however.

The 65259-00 are what came standard on the 05 SEEG's and possibly the 04 SEEG's..  I am about the only person on this board with the stock muffler's and headpipes on an 05..  Nice and mellow at cruising speeds and will give a little noise on acceleration.  Quiet at idle.  I will say this, they get louder with age/miles.  I just turned 18,000 miles on my bike, (these mufflers/head pipes have 12,000 on them as the bike had Rinehart TD's for 6,000 miles)..  The Rinehart's were too loud for me even with the quiet baffles.  With the above part # you just get mufflers, then add end caps and shields if wanted.  Keep watching Ebay for a good deal.  A lot of people mistake this mufflers with the now discontinued SE mufflers that were once available and were much louder.  Hope this helps, Bob.

If the 65259-00's came standard on the '05 SEEG's then would it be safe to assume that the stock mufflers on the SEEG's were louder than the stock mufflers that came on my '06 CUSE?  Because the stock muffs on my bike are really quiet.  Since I have the true duals I would also assume that they would be a little louder than on stock headpipes.  However, TD's didn't mke my stock mufflers any louder.

I know the book says that the 65259-00 mufflers are only for '95-'05 bikes.  That's just an EPA deal because the '06 bikes had cats in them.

I can't say that they will be louder, never heard an 06 with the stock mufflers.  The 05's had 3.5" diameter mufflers and for 06 they went to 4" diameter.  I heard that true duals made any muffler louder but not in your case.  I don't know if these are the answer for you.  Another fellow has TD's and has had both SPO's and D&D's police interceptor mufflers and liked the D&D's best for the low sound he wanted but better than stock.  Everyone has different sound tastes and unfortunately some people has had 5-10 sets of mufflers before they got what was right for them.  Thankfully we have Ebay.

Hey, Boatman.  How right you are.  I'm on my 6th set.  Besides the stockers I've tried two different sets of Scream Eagle performance mufflers, a set of Hookers, a set of modifed stock mufflers, a set of Rush muffs with 1.5" baffles and now the V&H Ovals.  Why can't someone make a good sounding, good looking muffler that is between loud and quiet?  I can't get past the looks of the SPO's.  I suppose the D&D Police Interceptors may be an option.

Are you 100% sure the muff's on the '05 SEEG's are the same as the 65259-00's?

Not for sure, but I thought the mufflers on the '04's and '05's were the same. My parts manual is giving P/N 65254-00A for my mufflers.

The 2 piece S/E Touring Muffler is a different part than the one that came on my 05 SEEG. The ones on the bike are relatively quite (kind of nice best I remember). The 65259's are louder, but still not as loud as the S/E Pro's they no longer sell (65115). But you can buy the old Pro's from Super Trap.

65259-00 is the part number for a pair of mufflers, 65254-00 is the part number for the individual mufflers, they were OEM on the 04/05 CVO touring bikes, they had a unique tip and full length heat shields.

I have them on my 110 Jester (currently a v-single) and they are pretty quiet; not much difference from stock, I think.  I use them for long distance touring, and the rest of the time I have the SE Pro muffler 65115-98B, which is pretty loud.

:) Yes, if I didn't keep my SoH, I'd go nuts, Howie!

No date yet on new engine - last week they were form filling and sending photos  :nixweiss: to HD in the US and they said "it shouldn't be long" whatever that means!

Jim,

Do you have any tuning issues when switching back and forth between the two mufflers?  What are you using?  SERT, PC ??????

I hope I don't, George  ;) - I'm using the Thundermax with autotune from Zippers. Have a look at http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=14269.0
