SERT problem
« on: July 30, 2007, 09:51:57 AM »

Has anyone any experience of using a SERT with a USB to Serial converter?

I was doing a friend's bike yesterday. Both my laptop and his have no serial ports, so I used the USB to serial port adapter that I use with my TMAT, but the software refused to communicate with the SERT properly.    He's going to try taking his home PC out to his garage tonight to try it with that.

The help file does say that a USB to serial converter can be used, but it wouldn't work with mine, that's for sure.

I had the correct serial port selected, the software listed it as "open", but when I told it to "get ECM info" it put "not found" into the three boxes.  Trying to program the ECM failed at 3% saying it could not communicate.  :nixweiss:

Anyone else had such a problem?

I use / have used the USB / SERIAL with no issues.   The biggest problem is reserving an com port from 1 to 8.

The local Harley dealer here uses the converter as well as the new IBM laptop they bought has no serial port.

I recommend the Manhatten converter as I know it works.

Thanks Harry - I'll try another converter I think.
