New Rider, New FXDSE@
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:32:52 PM »

Hello from Houston!  I just purchased (August) my first bike - a 2008 FXDSE2 in Red. I've been riding about 3 months and I'm kicking myself that I haven't done this earlier.  Since I'm REALLY a newbie - any advice regarding riding or aftermarket products would be welcomed.  I love everything about my Dyna but... should I get new pipes?  If so, why and which ones should I look at?  And will changing pipes void warranty, or hurt the value?  Thanks in advance brothers!

Welcome from Salem, Oregon. Congratulations on the new FXDSE2! Changing out the pipes will not void the warranty and IMO is one of the first modifications that you should consider for looks, improved performance and to get that great Harley sound out of your bike. When you upgrade the exhaust, you should also look at installing a PSIIIUSB or SERT for optimim performance of your bike.

Welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: The addition of pipes will not void your warranty, however along w/the pipes you may need to add a better breather and a way of modifying your fuel delivery system (SERT/PC/Thundermax). The best advice for choosing pipes would be to look and listen to as many exhaust systems on a bike like yours.

Welcome to the site. The people here are a wealth of info and great to talk to . Happen to have a set V&H 2-2 pipes for sale. Love the sound but to old for where they dumped out. Went to V&H 2-1, dumped a little farther back. E-mail if interested.

Hello, and welcome to CVO Harley!!  These guys got you covered.  My preference on a bike like that:  Vance & Hines Big Shots Staggered, Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner, and whatever EFI management system floats your boat.  I like the Vance & Hines based on my experience with them on a softail.  Very nice sound, but you might want to pull the stock baffles and install V&H Quiet Baffles.  They'll knock the sharpness off the sound plus about 3 db and still provide that awesome V&H rumble.  The Ness Big Sucker will allow you to flow gobs of air through your engine.  Torque and Horsepower centers around how effective and efficient your engine is at moving air.  The Big Sucker will do that.  Take your pick on the EFI managers.  Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT), Power Commander III USB, or Thunder Max in open loop, or add the Auto tune for closed loop.....and if you go that route, get your pipes with 02 bungs.  There's plenty of experience here to guide you.  Again, welcome aboard.
