Looking for comments on 110 issuses
« on: October 07, 2008, 05:40:09 PM »

Ok - Yes it's a different message board, but American Iron is looking for comments on issues with your 110 (providing you had some ;) ). Here is the link in the event you would like to add something

Think I recall at least one of our members taking the time to try and convey the 110 issues to AIM and I believe the response was less than enthusiastic. Anyone here (where's the d00derator) recall who that was??

I think it would be easier to invite Mr. Kanter over. The amount of data available on this fine site regarding the 110's would fill several issues of the magazine to begin with, and then some.

I doubt this information will lead to help us any and my hurt us more.

Writing an article condemning the 110 will surely have negative affects on our bikes resale ability whether it is true or not.

The details often get lost and the sound byte is "110 awful choice"

110 = AWFUL CHOICE I'd say that pretty much covers it.

Opinions are like well some part of the human anatomy. Just because there are a few issues with the 110 doesn't make it an awful choice. I mean come on the largest most powerful engine ever offered from the MOCO an awful choice- I THINK NOT.

I have to disagree also with the "110 being an awful choice" statement. I really enjoy my bike and even though the engine is stock (Air, Motor, ECM, Exhaust) I find it to have great smooth power. Granted there are "bugs" with the design of the motor, but I honestly believe the MoCo will step up to address it better than just their Product Program. Yes it's frustrating that it seems to take so long and/or looks to be denied, but this may be case where views from the outside (being us) need to be expressed for those at the MoCo to recognize the problem. Well at least I hope so.

You can't say "bugs" in the design, or an engine with issues is a good engine! You might like the power or like the way it rides, but consistent failures of the same things, constitues poor design, under-engineering, and/or poorly manufactured components. I think Jacques has it right. It's "potentially" good engine. Needs a substantial amount of help is all! And don't count on the right help ever being provided by the MoCo!!! They'll never make this engine all it SHOULD be!!! ;)

WE all spend mad money on these bikes and they take almost 3 years to come up with a (BAND AID) fix for a major f up.
I love my bike also, but you better not count on the MOCO for any real help, this (BAND AID) will get most out of warranty, then what, we spend money out of our own pocket, ( AGAIN).
Just like GM with the 3100 and 3400 motors, intake gaskets leak early, we fixed em under warranty, then when they go again (AFTER WARRANTY) customer pays. >:( >:( >:(

That's why I have a 7-year ESP...will only cost me Fiddy bucks if they go wrong after the factory warranty expires.

I agree with Jacques & Howie. After all who better to be the guinea pigs than a customer who can afford a $30k + bike as a base platform and only to learn that they have to dump a crap pile of money to make it better or get rid of it. I invested in my bike because I beleive in it. I'm dissapointed on how MOCO dealt with it but my dealer kicked in and helped. So far the investment is paying off and my dealer has a loyal customer.

I have the 7yr service too. I am trying to keep a positive thought (at least within my own brain), though I may be disappointed. Looks like I still have 6 1/2 yrs to cover problems. If they continue on a chronic basis before the warranty expires, a replacement ride will probably be in order - May just go back to an EVO and just build it up.

Harley CVO 110 inch issues

Anyone here who owns and rides a 110 inch CVO?

We are hearing of many problems with them and would like to hear your story.

Buzz Kanter
Editor-in-Chief, American Iron Magazine"

This is under the "Tech & How to" section; Engines; Harley CVO 110 inch issues
http://www.aimag.com/forums/engines/4176-harley-cvo-110-inch-issues.html

If you are so incline, take a few minutes to give them the low down on any 110 motor related problems you have experienced. I posted and told Buzz of the earlier postings on their site from some of us. This may be a chance to actually put some light on the 110 problem that the MoCo will have to acknowledge. FWIW.

http://www.aimag.com/forums/engines/4176-harley-cvo-110-inch-issues.html

If you are so incline, take a few minutes to give them the low down on any 110 motor related problems you have experienced. I posted and told Buzz of the earlier postings on their site from some of us. This may be a chance to actually put some light on the 110 problem that the MoCo will have to acknowledge. FWIW.

Donny Peterson told me very early this year that he had determined the cause of the 110 problems and would have several articles out about it but it would be several months because the issues are planned quite a while in advance.  Chit that's been well over 6 or 8 months and I've seen nothing much so I figure by the time AIM finally gets around to getting out the word it will qualify as ancient history, lol.

I just received my December issue of AIM in the mail and noticed on the last page for topics for the next issue (January 09) that they have H-D's 110 motor to be covered in their Techline column. Should be interesting what will be discussed.

What really amazes me is just how many folks continue to give H-D a free pass on the quality and reliability issues.  And it's not just about the CVO110, it's about all the electrical and electronic issues, paint issues, other powertrain issues, and most of all the crappy customer service issues.  They continue to use lies as their first response to any and all problems, and only reconsider those lies after problems become so widespread that they can't sweep them under the rug.

Perhaps if the faithful had been more demanding of the MoCo over the past 20 years, we would now have high quality and reliability backed by great customer service.  I do know that we will never see major changes from H-D management until the customers demand it.

No Jerry.  It is ingrained with them that thier poop don't stink but how they train the staff to lie and abfuscate any questions are amazing at just about every dealership I have been too as well.

Case in point; picking up my 09 flhtcuse4 Saturday...

Me: "jeez the paint looks orange peely" Them;"oh because they powder coat the fender"
Me: "jeez that kickstand leans the bike over, is there a fix" Them;"It already has the part on "
Me: "jeez, listen to those piston slapping" Them;"Thats normal"
Me: "jeez, this thing is so hot the rear cyilinder shuts off, thats kinda hot, don't ja think? Them "Thats normal"
Me: "jeez, this is my 6th new HD in 10 years, why is it getting worse?" Them " Thats normal"

I go look at 15-20 other bikes, all chitty finish, all of them...they make more noise than my 1935.

This is my last hurrah, I hope it lasts, at 35k it is too much for so little.

I don't want to be sniviling, "it is what it is"...

Jerry

If the "faithful" had been more demanding they would have had to buy other equipment and most likely Harley would have been out of business, just ask the faithful Indian owners.
I am not sure that really serves us well, but we could be all riding Wings.
I also do not subscribe that Harley get a pass, but if you look at their history the product over the last 30 years is
much better now.
Paint quality was not even up for discussion in the "old days", all you wanted was not to leak more oil than a tank of gas would carry you before you had a chance to get more.
Harley Davidson exists because of the "faithful", not because of their stellar customer service (never was), not because their extreme reliability, not because of their cutting edge technology, not because of their attention to detail, but because they had a heritage and a very loyal following.
The "loyal following" may be also their eventual downfall, if they cannot evolve due to lack of customer interest.
I think we buy them because of their lineage and it is at times nostalgic to go back to times we remember.
If you wanted state of the art technology and the highest reliability and quality control, you would come to the conclusion that "metric" might serve you better.
I have had "metric" and I prefer the HD product, but then again I am older and wiser (mostly have more discretionary income).

It's stupid and a damn shame!!! Cause it's all about the return to shareholders! They really could GAS about customers or employees!!! This chit ain't rocket science and they can take care of EVERY issue they have, for a few more bucks that is! If a dopey cutomer like me knows what to do the these bikes, then surely the big bad MoCo, with their army of engineers, can get these things perfect! But they don't! Why is that? Cause the almight $$$ is more important than their customers or their quality!!! So.......

FTS!!! and FTF!!! ;)

Ok - Yes it's a different message board, but American Iron is looking for comments on issues with your 110 (providing you had some ;) ). Here is the link in the event you would like to add something

If they're asking that question perhaps they should release a suppliment :-X

Think I recall at least one of our members taking the time to try and convey the 110 issues to AIM and I believe the response was less than enthusiastic. Anyone here (where's the d00derator) recall who that was??

That would be me. I posted to their forum just after returning from the Knoxville HOG Rally in August 2007. It took them about 5 months for them to print it in the rag. There was supposed to be some press given to the specific problems in upcoming issues, but sadly that never happened and now that we're into the third model year, little good it will do now.

All we could do was try, and nothing ever came of the hard work of a lot of people.

The sad part, the MoCo doesn't care if you are satisfied or not. The only thing the new management cares about is your dollar, and they got that. Look what the management did to thier own employees, that they use to call "family". Consider yourselves lucky. The new CVO's are being built by casual workers, instead of full time employees. No more 5 man teams. The CVO's are being built on the regular assembly line just like any other bike. Now isn't that special. I can only say that I have bought my last Harley until they, the company get their heads out of their arses. They need to bring the parts back it house, and make bikes with Quality, not Quantity. Thats what is killing the company, but they keep seeing Dollar signs.

Next years CVO's might come out with plastic fenders and peel-n-stick decals for the fuel tank.

We all have our different points of view but for me, my 2010 Black Ultra CVO is the bike for me.  If it breaks I will fix it, The color scheme fit my personality and the bike is fun to be on.  Even when I pump gas in it, I stand back and smile.

Opinions are like well some part of the human anatomy. Just because there are a few issues with the 110 doesn't make it an awful choice. I mean come on the largest most powerful engine ever offered from the MOCO an awful choice- I THINK NOT.

Got two 110's, 08 FXDSE AND 09 FLHCUSE 4. Both have been trouble free ( so far ). 36,000 miles between them. Maybe I'm just lucky. When I snag second on the dyna and the rear end wants to pass me I'm grinning from ear to ear. ;D Maybe I'm lucky and happy. Long live the 110's. :2vrolijk_21:
