Not real happy with it, but I just don't want to "cut" anything, & the fuel door monut is in my opinion not really ideal either, if ya got a better place please let me know.

Are you using the stock mount that came w/the 660? If you are you might want to check with Techmount they have plenty of nice (chrome) options for mounts.

Also since you are the first (at least that I've seen) to have the 660 can you give us some feedback on the unit itself? TIA.

Ditto, I'm curious as to how it performs vs. the 550.

Not having the 550, I have really nothing to compair to, but having said that, I CAN EVEN RUN THIS THING, very  large bright touch screen (no buttons), EVEN I CAN SEE IT, really so far very very EZ to use, I think I'm going to like it.  As far as instructions, just a small quick "start up" book came with it. I thought hmm they forgot to put in a detailed operational book in, they did not, because once you turn it on, if you have ever used a computor you can use the 660, point..... tounch...... and GO.

So the 660 is released and for sale? Where did you get yours? I just talked to TigerGPS this morning and they said Garmin pushed the release date back on the Zumo 660 to mid to late May.

I ordered mine from Garmin direct on Jan 14, as a AMA member got 20% discount, total with shipping was $ 639.99 received last Friday.

The mounting is fine, I would have just liked a more "finished" look, and the folks on here are pretty clever,  so I thought I'd get additional suggests prior to do the hard wiring.

It would be a safe bet that someone is working on a tricked out mount for the 660 as we speak.

Hey Jettjocky, does the 660 run off battery power when mounted to the bike or power from the bike?

Power off the bike, but need to run the 12v wires.

I have both the 550 and the 660. I've been using the 550 on my Dyna for about eight months and the 660 on my UC for about three weeks. My first impressions of the 660 are that it is slightly better than my 550. The wider screen makes entering names easier with gloves on and the features are pretty much on a par with the 550. I think the 550 looks better on the bike as the size of the 660 stands out much more. That's just a matter of opinion though. I do not like the mount of the 660 compared to the 550. The 660 takes only a second to dismount (and steal), whereas the 550 has a security screw. The 550 has a magnetic cover permanently attached to the unit to cover the mount contacts when the unit is removed. The 660 uses a separate plate that is a little too easy to lose. You'll get good value out of both of them so buy the one that you can get the cheapest and you won't look back. These are my first impressions.

I had the 550 for about a year.  I was lured into getting the new one and possibly jumped too quickly.  I have not mounted the 660 yet, but...One of the things I liked the most about the 550 is the fact that you do not have to leave the mount on the bike all the time.  The 550 let you use the cigarette plug as a means to power the unit.  This allowed me to take the whole thing off in about 2 minutes.  With the 660 it appears to me so far that you have to hard wire the mount for power supply (either to the battery or into the fairing).  this is a major drawback to me.  if someone has this figured out please clue me in.  Ted

Here was my solution to hard wiring the GPS. I think it came out very clean and you can remove the GPS without having to hide the wires. Everything was purchased from Radio Shack.

very very nice & neat, the 660 as you know, has different mount that stays on the bike,  again great install. :2vrolijk_21:
