HOW TO HARD WIRE POWER CONNECTION FOR A GPS for ULTRA?
« on: May 25, 2009, 09:00:14 AM »

I searched.  Just want the best solution to hard wire and conceal the wire in fairing so the GPS can be mounted center on bottom of windshield.

One good option is the back of the cigarette lighter...you can then run the wire out the hold where the handlebars are, or out the clutch or brake line holes and hide things really well, depending on what kind of mount you intend to use.

Just to the right of the headlight inside the fairing you will see a plug with a RED cap on it. This is also a good spot. I was told this plug is used overseas. It is hot only when the ignition is on.

See picture.

I have my wire coming out of the corner of the radio. You don't even notice it.

Here is something I just recently learned with my new bike. The GPS for some reason still draws power with the bike off when wired directly to the battery. I had to flip through the wiring diagram and find a switched hot. On the 1125R Buell there is an accessory port that is wired through the ECM, in turn the ECM senses power draw and should it drop below a certain level the ECM closes like a switch and prevents total power loss.
