Küryakyn Rear Run-Turn-Brake Controller with Pulse Brake
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:21:31 AM »

I've got a Küryakyn p/n 4859 that seems to have gone bad. The dealer stripped almost every wire off the bike during the rebuild and I'm not sure if they did something or not. Needless to say, it now not working.
When the left turn signal is pushed, the hazards come on. Pushing it again does nothing. Pushing the right cancels it. I've unplugged all 4 turn signals independently and have isolated the problem to the Küryakyn 4859. It appears, according to their website, that there is only one load equalizer that needs to be plugged in. However, if I unplug it and plug it into the other pigtail, the problem moves to the right side. Does it need to have 2 X load equalizers? Pulling the part out of the equation, the lights work as stock.
I'm using this part to get turn and brake lights to the saddle bag LED's.
TIA,
AJ

You might need two equalizers   :o , as per installation instructions:

Recent versions of the Run-Turn-Brake Controller are equipped with two 3-pin pigtails for connection
of load equalizers. Additionally, recent versions of the 4810 load equalizer are also equipped with 3-
pin connectors. If both components are so equipped, plug the second load equalizer into the second
connector on the Run-Turn-Brake Controller. If the controller or load equalizer is not equipped with the
white 3-pin connector, it will be necessary to splice the second controller onto the load equalizer provided
with the Run-Turn-Brake-Controller. Piggyback the second load equalizer onto the first by splicing violetto
violet, violet-to-violet, and black-to-black.

This is exactly what it sounds like. However, It was functioning fine with only one load equalizer for the last year. Not sure what has changed?

A J,

I'm pretty sure the 4859 is what you need.  I can check mine tonight if you want me to or I've had really good luck with Kuryakyn tech support.  I'm almost positive the 06 and 08 only required one equalizer.

Bob, I thought I only had one equalizer on there and it seemed to be working after I left the dealer. Hell I know it was working, Chief installed the damn thing! I think I would have noticed it on a 56 mile ride home.
I'll call their tech support tomorrow, just got too busy with the KM people today. Yes, the KM folks. Funny thing is that questions like this came up.

AJ,
Give the Kuryakyn tech support dudes a call, very helpfull,
I just called them yesterday for the LED Fuel/Battery Gauge
Abby got me for Christmas for the Street Bob and within
5 minutes, I was back to normal and had a gauge that worked.
Well, at least the gauge is back to normal...

Timbone- you were right. Küryakyn's tech support was great! Problem was that the dealer left the alarm on while servicing the bike and burnt out the load equalizer. Remedy is to remove load equalizer and see if it is needed at all or replace. Easy fix.
