Screamin' Eagle Pro Twin Cam 103+ Kit
« on: February 18, 2006, 10:21:29 AM »

I recieved a great deal on this kit which includes SE Pro 103 Plus heads and pistons, 10.5:1 compression, 2.080 intake . Using SE Super Bore CV 51MM carb.

Need recommendations on cam selection, and whether to go gear driven or keep the chain drive w/bearing upgrade?

Thanks

What model bike are you installing this on and what kind of riding are you going to do?

Best advice I can give you is to

Call (414) 342-4680 MoCo customer service and ask for Ed in Tech if he's still there.

I am looking for the same answer.  I am currently running SE 258 cams and I want to go to a gear drive.  I have a new set of 103+ heads and pistons ready to go in.  I am currently looking at some of the Bob Woods cams.  I have a friend that is running one in his 103 and is making 118 HP and 125 torque.

What cam is he running or you guys got that competitive compition going on? I think I am going to use A 45 MIKUni instead of the 51. I have seen other posts else where that a Woods TW6gh or s&s 585 will get about the same numbers. Any input about the CArb or cam selection would be appreciated.

In that bike I would run a Red Shift 657 gear driven. If you really are looking for power in the upper RPM range then run the 647 gear driven. Also run the big bore 51mm CV

Bubba,

A few questions for you.

1.  What compression are you planning on running and with what pistons?

2.  What range do you like to ride in .....

3.  Do you cruise / race light to light / ride in the mountains / want lots of torque or you looking after high end

4.  Since you have these 103+ are you sending them out to be cleaned up / polished etc?

5.  Have you done anything in prep to handle all the extra power?
     a)  Clutch upgrades
     b)  Exhaust
     c)  Roller Rockers

6.  The problem is bigger isnt always better if the heads dont flow.   In some cases the velocity of the air is better used with smaller throttle body.

Let me know the compression ratios because that will determine the cam you should run.

If your going to run 10.5 to 1 as an example
Andrews 60g
Woods 6gh
S&S 585

If you want to go all out then the Zippers 657 / 647
S&S 625
Woods 400g
Andrews 59g

With these cams though you will need to make sure you have first the clearances / tolerances as well as the ability to not have to clearance your rocker boxes.   Also your going to need adjustable pushrods.   I would also recommend better lifters than stock such as the Screaming Eagles, Fueling, Jim's, S&S

I would also recommend Roller Rockers for your heads vs the stock ones.   Once you start reaching 590 to 600 you really should look to roller rockers.

Let me know what your looking for, just remember there are trade offs based on the choices.

Harry X out the S&S 625 and replace it with the S&S 640. You will be very surprised what you can do with the 103 plus heads with just a little bit of work. Dan and I were looking at a set yesterday and going over them. Compression should be 10.5 to 1 with all of these cams.

Dawg,

There is a difference thought he 625 will create more torque down low than the 640.  You ask how i know hhee well I own both cams and have tried both.  Currently have the 640 in the 124.   Depending on what he is looking for.   The 640 comes on a bit later and drives to the WFO range the 625 starts a bit early and not as much umph on the top end.

Firedood,

That is some serious bundling you did just to enjoy the scoot.   It was prolly worth the 10 minutes of layering :)

You going to Daytona ?
