It looks like the 110 is a bad engine, when you read some of the posts on this forum.  Keep in mind that you'll only hear the problems here.  Those of us that have had no problems with our 110's don't really say anything, because there's nothing to say.  Up to the current model year, there were over 55000 CVOs with 110 engines produced since 2007.  The '07s probably had the most problems with the rear head gasket problem.  I've have 4 - 110 bikes now (07, 10, 11, and 12, still have the 11 and 12), and other than the weeping head gasket on the 07, which was fixed with the product enhancement, I've had no problems with any of my 110s.  I would venture to guess that probably less than 100 (at least on here), have had problems with their 110s.  In shear numbers, that's less than .5%.  I think with any mechanical device, it's subject to fail at anytime, not just the 110.  This holds true for your car, lawn mower, truck, whatever.  I wouldn't be afraid to own a 110.  Like I said, I've had four and I'll keep buying them.  If it breaks, that's what warranties are for.   :nixweiss:

Nice reporting, now let us know how much difference is there in a days ride for the 110 vs the 96 or 103.

My brother should be picking up his brand new 2012 103" Street Glide soon? He is installing a high flow air cleaner, PC-V and Reinhart true duals and their 4" slip-ons. This is a fairly comparable set-up I have on my 2011 CVO with PC-V, V & H true duals and V & H High Output slipons. Plus we are within 10 lbs of each other.

Once he gets the bike broke in a bit we'll run them and see how they compare. Hopefully the weather stays good so he can get some miles down.

A dyno on a stock 103 showed about 70 HP and 90 ft-lb torque.  My 110 dynoed with Stage 1 and Rineharts at 90 HP and 109 ft-lb.  I think most Stage 1 mods give about a 10% improvement.

His 103 needs to have the same cams and heads to have a chance to play

I'll keep that a secret from him for now. It will give me a chance to screw with him for awhile.

Do the 110s from 2013 have the hydraulic chain tensioners or is this only an aftermarket upgrade?

Thanks,

Basically, the current TC103 is to a TC96 as the older TC95 was to a TC88.  Just a larger bore and pistons in the stage 1 street legal version.  And just like with the TC95, it really isn't necessary to pay extra for new jugs.  Just have the stock cylinders bored to the correct oversize, which is all H-D does with those jugs in the kits.  So going to a 103 in the Limited or the Power Pack option basically cost H-D nothing; the cylinders don't cost them any more, and the pistons are existing off the shelf parts as well.

The 110 is a little more involved, as the cases have to be bored to accept the larger cylinder spigots, the heads are different, etc.

Jerry

Jerry, good morning.

Just to clarify your statement about the 88" - 95" - 103", I will be purchasing probably an '02 88" "B" motor for a Cyclecar project in the next 6 months or so.  As I've been told, the '02 is the last year for the Timken as stock and it has the better crank.  Although I understand that the better crank was used up and through '04.

I do want to start out with the 88" so I can debug my Cyclecar driveline etc, but would like to up the cubes for more torque.  I have a new S&S Super E carb and will be running the Thunderheart standalone ignition system.  Again, I'm not looking for lots or hp, but more grunt.  I understand the Super E is good for cubes I'm looking to go up to.

So now to my question.

I've been told that to do the 95" I only need to bore out my stock 88" cylinders and use of course the appropriate pistons.

If I want to forgo the 88" and go right to 103", is this another overbore of the stock 88" cylinders or do I need to get new cylinders in the 103" bore?  Pistons too of course...

If I stopped at the 88", I would probably just keep the stock 88" cam.  But if I can go directly to the 103", is there a cam that might better supply the added cubes up from the 88"?  Going up to the 103" is about a 15% increase in volume, so I'm guessing maybe the stock 103" cam would possibly be a good choice?

I would think used 103" cylinders could be had quite easily.

Thanks in advance.

Dan, the difference between the 95 and 103 is stroke not bore size so you can not just bolt on 103 jugs.  98 is about as big as you can get using the proper bore and pistons without having to change the crank.

Thanks for the information.

So unless I want to go the full monty and do a 124" from S&S, 98" is going to be the limit.

Will my stock 88" cylinders bore out to the 98" pistons, or are new cylinders necessary?  I'd like to keep the stock and bore if possible as these would be seasoned cylinders and hopefully be better in the long run as long as the cylinder walls are thick enough.

When that time comes, I'll probably get with some of our vendor members about pistons and boring my stock cylinders.

But for the first get go, I'll stick with the stock 88" to debug everything.

Thanks again.
