Obtaining an Breakout??
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:03:56 PM »

I live in north central Illinois and have been calling all the dealers within about 150 mile radius.  Many different answers from many dealers.  I am looking for the red model Breakout and there have been a few that have the golds and the blacks coming in, but no reds.  I did find one dealer that told me he could make sure he got a red one during the "phase 3" ordering process, which means the bike would arrive in November.  I am just wondering if this is true, or the dealer is just trying to suck me in for a deposit.  Of course it would be refundable, but in the meantime if one came up somewhere else I would be out a deposit.  So what do you all think?  thanks in advance for any help.

My understanding is that the dealers have limited knowledge of exactly how many, or what color, of the 2013 bikes they will receive until later in the year.  Of course my dealer could be lying to me.....

Here in Australia we're being told various stories from November 2012 to February 2013

Now that's at $43K Australian , about $45150 USD at today's exchange rates !!

Oh, and there's a $5K deposit TODAY to get "on the wait list" with NO SPECIFIC guarantee of colour ( sorry "color" !)

After doing a tremendous amount of searching I am now finding a few dealers in Wisconsin who have them coming in late October/Novemeber- my wife however wants me to keep my 07 softail springer, so I don't know if I will be getting the Breakout now :-\

I have seen ALL this before in Australia

Some folks who have put "deposits" on CVO Breakouts will NOT complete the deal

When the Rocker was announced in Australia , for a while people were "selling" their place in the Queue

It was taking up to 14 months to get one...

Within 14 months Aussie dealers had them sitting on the floor, availability immediate.

It will happen again , you could put money on it.

CVO Springers here are on the 2nd hand market for 6 months + , must tell you something about the current market

JMO but wait 3 years and you will be able to buy used ones at $20k.
I think they are great looking bikes, just like I think the CVO springers are great looking.
But, my guess they will generally end up being low mileage
bikes that can be picked up in 3 years in great shape when they are traded because the owner
"A" doesn't ride them enough or "B" they want a touring bike so they trade for the
windshield and bag line-up.
Love to have one myself for a second bike.  They are cool lookin'.

I saw a red one up close on the factory tour in York a couple of weeks ago (no pictures allowed on the factory floor).  The Red is stunning.

I have spoken to 2 dealers that were at the release and both have said the red is their favorite so I'm happy now. It is hard ordering a bike and colour that you have never seen in the flesh.

Only put down $1k deposit for mine and also got to choose between Red or Black. I took the red!  8)

Also a mate only put down $1k for his CVO 110th Ultra as well. The $5k deposit must be WA dealer thing.

As for delivery date I've been told the same.

" Only paid $1k deposit for mine, plus I choose the colour I wanted. "

Yeah, that'd probably be right. Here in the west for 10+ years we had only one place to go, one of the Frasers outlets.

That led by default to " arrogance " on the part of the dealer 'coz where else were you gonna go ?

That's still why they're asking for a $5K deposit , that's the entrenched mindset.

Won't be $5K of my money they're holding for 3 or 4 months mate , no danger of that !!

Bretto , as a matter of local interest what was/ is the "ride-away" price in Rockhampton ?

I just got a sportster 72 but really wanted the Breakout but got told "no" also....but by my husband. They are pretty sweet so if you get one let me know, I live in northern Illinois and would love to see one in person and not get attacked by the Harley salesman.

I am lucky enough to have a small family HD dealership i work with.  They charge MSRP for CVO's and no more, and no set up fees as I have heard some other HD dealers charge..

Yes, you folks outside the US have it tougher than we do.  I read in several places that 30% of the ~1900 Breakouts produced would be exported to the rest of the world, so that's about 630 or so of all three colors combined!

Love the BR 2-1.  I put it on as soon as I bought my Custom in 2008.  Has that trademark VH low rumble without being obnoxious.  I also like the fact that it's a bit unusual; I rarely see it on another bike, and it makes good power.  It's interesting you mention it as I was on the VH site just the other night looking at possibilities..  The danger with the BR 2-1 is how it will look with the lines of the Breakout since it covers a good deal of the side of the bike with the large, arching, single pipe.

For that reason, I may go with the Straight Shots to keep the dual pipe, staggered look of the OEM exhaust on the Breakout.

I think the VH exhausts designed to fit the 2009 Softail CVO might work since that was a 110 motor as well..??  Depends on whether the mounting brackets are in the same place as the 2013 CVO 110 I suppose....

Assuming it would fit, absolutely-subtle, yet powerful with a unique look.

According to the press release on the V&H website, they specifically state that the fit doesn't work for the Breakout.  They are still working the specs.

Ah, thanks very much...I can't figure out where their press releases are on their website....I was out there the other day looking for them just to see if they had any new announcements.

Appreciate the heads up.  I was just hoping that a 2009 110 Sotail fitment would be the same as a 2013 110 Softail.

Guess i will have to ride around with a mouse-quiet bike for awhile !

 :cucumber:hi guys
I asked and asked for one from my local HD dealer and was told that they were all sold. I received a call yesterday saying a guy pulled out so I jumped at it. 4K down and now a long wait till November. It's going to be a long Christmas.

Hi,
No that was is Brisbane Australia. It was for a black , silver one which is the one I was chasing. He had a long list of potential purchasers if I wasn't interested , so I was happy to stump up the ten percent deposit. I liked the red one as well but would prefer it with a black seat. Just goes to show , that's why they make different colours and models. My buddy thinks I am mad getting rid of my cobalt blue 09 CVO springer for this one. Hope the breakouts get delivered before the Feb quoted time.

Well I've still got my $1k deposit down on my Breakout. Plus have ordered the matching sissy bar pad and bags to match the brown seat.

Also RHD are now getting 3 Breakouts. One of each color. The hard candy gold was basically sold the minute they told they had a 3 bike as they also had a waiting list of buyers.

I ordered a red one on 09/02/12 from Nassau County Harley Davidson (Bellmore, NY), and was originally told it would arrive by the end of November.  Well, that date has come & gone, but the dealer had received a black one.  The owner of the black bike ordered the it in August.  Anyway, new date given to me from the dealer is April/ 2013..... geezzzzz .... hopefully it will show up...

For those looking in the states. If you are looking for a gold breakout try Barnett Harley in El Paso, TX. They should be getting the one I backed out of in April, no idea if anyone has put a deposit down yet. Whiskey River Harley in Texarkana, TX claims they will have silver and black in February and no deposit down yet as of Jan 1.

Searched all over for the Gold Dust / Liquid Sun. Dealers around the Tn area said they were selling up to $3500 over. Finally found mine in Beaver Dam WI. Michlers HD. I had a great experience with Michlers, I told them over the phone I would take take it, (obviously sight unseen) and with-out a deposit, they put a sold sign on it, and held it until I could get there 3 days later. It was sold to me for list price, no fees whatsoever! It was well worth the 1400 mile round trip to pick it up. The trip was a blast, we really enjoyed stopping by the museum.

Here is a pic of the first time on the bike.

Glad for your great find but sad none of our Tennessee dealers could work with you on that.  As it's none of my business but did you try Smoky Mountain HD in Maryville?  Scott doesn't normally mark up his bikes over list (at least what I have seen).

At least you did get a great looking bike and a good trip out of it with a museum visit.

Excellent!  It's fun to have a road trip to pick up a bike.  I am the same as you.  I would drive pretty much as far as I needed to avoid paying over MSRP-it's a principal issue for me.  i was very lucky in that my local dealer is family owned and they are good folks.  They never sell a bike below MSRP, but they never sell one for more either, even CVO's.

It is just a fantastic bike in every way....you are going to love it...

BTW, I am originally from Memphis and when I'm back I always stop by one or more of the Bumpus dealerships.....they have some steep above MSRP pricing as well...

I was riding the Dragon last September for the first time and stopped into the Maryville dealer a couple of times.  I needed a couple of adjustments to my V-Rod and the folks there helped me out at no charge.

That is a massive complex they have there....that's a serious party barn they have!

I had to search for my Black and Silver.....a "kind of local" dealer had one for sale.....I missed out on ordering one.  Phantom Harley in Manteno had one and I didn't pay over sticker....

My dad bought his Rocker C at Barnett HD in El Paso since most of the dealers in DFW marked them up and Barnett didn't. Since I'm working on the road and I'm only about a 12 hour drive from El Paso I contacted them and talked to a sales guy for several months and put a deposit down. I was second in line. First one came in and it sold. So when its time for them to order mine the sales guy tells me that they have decided to mark it up to $31,500 since it is limited production and this will be the only one that they will get. Keep in mind this is after several months of having discussions where it was always put out there that I would be paying MSRP. Played it cool and left my money there for a few days until I found another one, then I got my money back. I realize that this is a business and they are in it to make profit, but reputation can make or break you.

Whiskey River Harley in Texarkana, TX. Just happened to be going home for Christmas and they are about four hours from the house. Hooked up the enclosed trailer drove it to Texas and back.
