New slip-ons for 110
« on: November 11, 2014, 07:49:22 PM »

OK, I have a 2013 CVO RG, which has Fullsac DX header pipe and Reinhart 4" slip-ons.  I very happy with the Fullsax header.  The problem is with the Reinharts - around town or for short rides they are fine.  However, for a 500+ mile trip, my ears are still ringing the next day (and I'm wearing earplugs and a 3/4 helmet).

My Dyno Tuner says I should go with the V&H High Outputs which have a deeper sound and not as "harsh" as the Reinharts.  Another option might be the V&H Monster Rounds.

Any experience here?  I like the looks and the sound (from sound bites) of the HOs but going on a 500 mi ride might be different.  Thanks for any imput.

Have Fullsac cores put back into the stock mufflers. The 2" are a very nice blend for ear comfort and if you want quiter you can go to the 1 3/4" as they can be changed back and forth if you want.

If you are coming off Rinehart's you can even go with the Fullsac 2.25" cores.....they will be quieter than what you have now.

I installed the Fullsac 1.75" baffles in my stock mufflers and think they are great  :2vrolijk_21: Nice tone around town with plenty of volume (for me anyway) when I twist the throttle and on those long days/trips they won't wear you down at all. I am also using Fullsac's catless headpipe.

On my 2nd set of HO mufflers with V&H power duals. Had them on my 2011 FLHXSE2 also with heavy breather and 10.5:1 pistons, we rode over 4000 miles on our 2013 sturgis trip with them and I personally had no issues with it being too loud. No complaints from the beautiful lady behind me either, as a matter of fact she is the one that insisted we install them on the 2015 ultraviolet/molten lava as soon as we left the dealer with it.

I am running the V&H power duals and HO slip ons.  I added the slip ons first and ran them for a few hundred miles.  I noticed that when I got the head pipes and a tune done that the sound seemed quieter at highway speeds.  It made it a deeper rumble but could hear the tunes better with the new PD's.

I gather V&H Monster Ovals aren't too popular with members here. In my area the local dealer has sold quite a few of these. When investigating exhaust changes I was there one day when they installed Fullsac headers and the Monster Ovals on an Ultra. They sounded great and importantly to me, they weren't obnoxiously loud. Liked them enough that I had them install the same system. Although the pipe noise issue hasn't come up lately, my state was really pressing loud pipes restrictions for a time.

Good to know about the HOs.  Its just that the 4" Reinharts, for me, are just too loud on a long trip and I don't want the same potential problem with the HOs, as I'll need to get the bike re-tuned ($$), etc...  I called V&H and they recommended if noise was an issue it would be safer to go with the Monster Ovals.  Thanks for your input.

I live on a golf course and haven't had anyone say that they were offensive...  I just try to make sure that I lay off the throttle as best I can..

Thanks TX Gator - any problems with noise (ears ringing) on long distance (8 plus hrs) trips with the HOs?

We haven't ridden that long of a trip yet.  Longest so far with the new set up is from here to Daytona last Sunday (about 1.5 hours each way).  I think it is always louder for my wife than it is for me because she sits over the exhaust.  She mentioned that she could hear the radio better now than before.  About 45 minutes each way was on I-95 @ 80 mph or so.  Just asked and she said no ringing issues.

I have seen quite a few used bikes at the dealerships with this set up.  I had them fire one up to see what it sounded like to help me choose.

Hope this helps.

I have the Power duals and Monster rounds on my 2014 CVO Road king and love the sound. No issues at all with a half helmet or even a 3/4 helmet on short rides. You can start getting tired from a droning noise with a 3/4 or full face however on long rides (300 miles and over) but that is true with most aftermarket pipes (also depends on the helmet you use). I find it to be an issue on my other road king (not CVO but big bore with cams) that has the same set up but with True Duals instead of power duals. The true dual set up is a lot louder with either HO or Monster Rounds .
I always use ear plugs and a 3/4 helmet for long rides anyway but it is more against wind noise than due to the V&H monster rounds.
I also get a lot of torque and power with this setup on the CVO.

Thanks again for the info.  I wonder why more noise with a 3/4 helmet?  I also always use ear plugs and a SHOE 3/4 helmet on long, freeway rides...  Nice looking CVO Road King btw.
