Title: Valve seal came off
Post by: rascal1007 on September 02, 2018, 06:43:15 PM
Background:
09 CVO 110 with 72300 miles
TTS and Fullsac pipe since virtually new
Andrews 54 cams for the last 50000 plus miles
Fuelling lifters high volume SE oil pump and cam plate installed at just over 60000 miles.

Seal came off the guide on the front exhaust valve last weekend and got flattened.

Any else have this issue or have suggestions?

I have done a lot of work on these heads over the years. There have been runs of guides that have the tops a few thousandths small. Not good. The latest black seals should be very snug. If they slide on easy something is wrong. The 07 and 08s used kline's, not so good, they were replaced on the program heads with the black vitons, a good seal but way too expensive.

Probably just wore out.....alot of heat there

Good time mileage wise for a freshen up

replace the seals with AV&V seals, theira lot better than OEM and they will never come off, while your doing that, replace the OEM springs with AV&V or kibblewhite, your lifters will thank you

When I encounter a guide top that is out of spec I cut it to .423 for a .421 ID seal, problem solved. It doesn't matter the brand, an undersized guide top will slip a seal. I use AV&V or US Seal ROK.
