Title: 2018 CVO RG on the Dyno
Post by: cyco1450 on October 03, 2018, 09:01:51 PM
Bought my 18 CVO RG with 500 miles on it and a V&H 2 into 2 full system. 94hp and 114 ft lb tq. Put back the stock exhaust with Fullsac 2” baffles and a TTS tuner and it now has 101hp and 123 ft lb tq.!!!

What tuner did it have with the VH 2-2?

You won’t believe my answer, but NONE. The selling dealer put on new V&H exhaust with no tuner???? How ridiculous!

CVO's come with a StageI download from the factory. No need for a tuner for pipes only.

As lean as a factory cal is due to EPA
I’d rather invest in a competent professional tune with a completely stock bike over buying a set of mufflers & riding with a OE calibration....noise is not useable power

You would be amazed at how much HP and torque you can gain with just a tune on a 100% stock bike with stock pipes.

It is ridiculous, but I believe it.  Plenty of people have no idea that stock header with catalytic converter is very restrictive, and even more so with the stock mufflers.  As you already know, no way the stock EPA-approved map for the stock exhaust system can adjust enough to compensate for a non-cat header and free-flow mufflers--which is why HD had to develop an EPA-approved map for their Stage I free-flow exhaust system and a/c.

So you made Two changes at the same time? (Pipe and tuner?) If that's the case, you really don't fully
know what the impact of each individual part was. I'd be willing to bet the V&H pipes would have done
allot better with the tuner in place.

The factory tune is aimed primarily at emissions. That's their #1 priority (to meet EPA standards).
I'm curious to know what the V&H pipe would have done with a better tune. Factory exhaust systems
are geared towards emissions as well (and noise).

Glad you're getting it up where it belongs though. Emission tunes make excessive heat and are not
friendly toward longevity of the engine either.

Keep up the good work, we have more work ahead of us to get these M8s up to their potential. (And
there's a lot more to be had) The heads are capable of some serious HP.
