2016 cvo street glide cam or 117
« on: April 11, 2016, 04:30:11 PM »

Looking for opinions on a SE 585 in stock 110 with Vance and Hines power duals and os450 slipons or doing a full SE 117 kit. I want strong low and midrange with a little higher Roma before drop off. I haven't even ridden the bike yet but I'm coming off a 2013 ultra with stock 103 and SE 255 cam and really like the power but not the wall at 4500 RPM. My dealer will honor 2 year warranty if I use SE products. The SE259 in the 117 looks like a high RPM cam but showed decent lie RPM torque so I'm confused lol. Last option is run it stock for a year and use aftermarket after that. Open to all thoughts. Thank you.

It will beat the socks off of your 103 all the way through the curve, so I don't really see any downside to the factory 117 stuff from your perspective.

The Power duals are pretty good.  The 450 slip on will Hurt low end torque, not near enough back pressure, not even with the 117.  Same with the V&H high outputs, they hurt low end torque.  Those big mufflers are built for sound, not low end power.  You want something with a 2" or a 2.25" baffle in them, not the big baffles.

I can't speak to the 259E in the 117 from personal experience, but from they dyno sheets I have seen it has pretty good low end torque.

My 13 SERK has a 259E, with 10.8 to 1 compression and worked heads, I have 100 torque at 2500 rpm, 110 torque at 2750 rpm and hold 120 torque from 3250 to 5250 rpm.  Its a blast to ride, 122 HP, but the torque is what makes it a blast.

Having just done the cams and fuel moto head pipe, I would start with the cams and if not enough go for more.  The only thing you will have to do twice is the tune.  The right cams in a 110 is a strong bike.  1.75 baffles from fullsac for low torque.

What cam did you put in? What where your numbers before and after?

I have the 117 kit with the SE 585 cams .
Better than the SE 259 for low torque.

I have the 117 drop in kit with no other engine mods. The 259E cams work well. Low end grunt is fantastic. Would be surprised if the SE585 produced more. Unending power all through the gears. Dyno posted so you can see for yourself. I would go with the 117 over a 110 build any day. Good luck with your decision.

Did you have a baseline done? That Dyno sheet looks impressive and very strong down low.

Yes, a baseline was done. Tech spent 6 hours on the tune. He did a 50 mile break in and had me put 500 miles on the bike before the final tune. The low end grunt is fantastic. But the Bassani pipes probably help with that.

Keep in mind that is STD correction. SAE numbers are a couple percent lower.

Matt that is almost my exact set up. How does it feel down low 2000 to 3000 rpm? Does it feel better or worse there compared to stock with exhaust and tune?

Feels like I spent $43k 4 months ago on a bike and still haven't ridden it because the weather is BS and i'm waiting for the stupid air cleaner cover to come back from powder coat.

So yah, feels great :drummer:

Also, to be 100% forthcoming, I've never ridden a stock CVO or a "stage 1" CVO.  My last bike was a '14 103 with a 'too big' exhaust and stg 1 flash.  Before that was an 11:1 103 with a 260 cam...so I'm kind of all over the board over here.

Just had my bike Dyno tuned it hit 100 HP and 111 TQ SAE 5. They said it pulled strong numbers for a stock SE 110. It showed big TQ form 2000 up. I was worried about my exhaust hurting me but it looks great. Bike is a 2016 SE Street Glide with stock intake and Vance and Hines power dual with OS 450 Vance and Hines slip-ons.😎😄
