Adding heated grips - HD or Heat Demon?
« on: December 04, 2016, 07:12:40 AM »

I want to add heated grips to my 2014 RK and was wondering what everyone's opinions were on the simplest, best looking way to do that.  The Heat Demons look cool as they utilize your existing grips.  HD heated slipstream grips say that they will not fit CVO models which seems odd.

I had the Heat Demons on my 2005 SEEG and my wife has them on her 2009 Streetglide and they do a great job.  Have 4 heat settings.

My 2010 SEUC had factory grips and they did not heat that well.  The grips on my 14 are plenty hot (knock wood for no failure)..

The early 2007-2010 factory grips had a lot of failures and didn't heat that well.  I have heard no complaints or failures the last couple of years.

I would go with the factory grips.  The slipstreams will probably fit, Harley says a lot of things don't fit a CVO..

One thing about the HDemons's, they are inside the bar and the Harley heat element is in the grips..  Good luck on your decision, they are nice to have (along with a heated seat).

I have Heat Demons on my 2014 RK and they work great with my standard slipstream grips. My girlfriend also has them on her Street Bob which has RSD grips which don't seem to get as warm as mine. I've never tried the H-D heated grips so can't comment on those.

Yep, HD says the 13 CVO Slip Stream grips don't fit my 13 CVO King.  I ordered the factory grips off the 13 CVO Limited and had them put on my 13 King.  Work just fine, wired internally.

HD says the Heated grips will not fit my 17 CVO Street glide.  Ordered the 17 CVO Limited heated grips and had the installed on my  bike.  Again they fit, are wired internal and work great.

Dave,

I'm in the process of doing a bar change, Are the OE Heated grips VIN protected ?
I do know the P&A heated grips have had their share of probloms

I ordered the heated grips that came on the '11 CVO Ultra and adapted them to my '15 SESG...they weren't VIN protected.

I put them(heat demons) on my 2009 Road Glide and they are still working.  Seems I remember somthing about needing 7/8" ID on handlebars to have them fit properly. They may have fixed that issue.

On the wife's 13 CVO RG we put on the heated wired internally and haven't (knock on wood) had any issues 3+ years now.

Not that I am aware of.  For both bike the dealer just ordered the ones that came on the CVO limited for that year.

I think 12 or 13 was the year HD got the heated grips to heat well.  I know earlier years people complained the ones that came stock did not work well.

which grips are these?  were they from the p&a catalog, or are these stock off another bike?

If memory serves me they were the grips off the CVO Ultra.

Good info - thanks!  Sounds like either is a good choice.  Seems hard to believe that the CVO heated grips are any different versus the P&A heated grips, but who knows.  Based on the price, definitely won't be going the OEM CVO route as from what I see the 2013 Ultra had the Slipstream collection heated grips...according to Ronnies HD online, just the grips (at their discounted price) would run $425 and it looks like you may need to buy additional wiring on top of that!
