Replaced amp and speakers in 2015 SG to Biktronics
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:37:48 PM »

After having to replace all the speakers during the warranty period and now having to replace one of saddle bag speakers on my own dime (Factory warranty expired and ESP doesn’t cover speaker), thought it best to replace the sound system with something that will last and maybe sound better.

I could only find two venders that offered amp/speaker systems for the Rushmore CVO street glide as a plug and play.  Soundz Customz and Biketronic.
I first approach Soundz Customz due from the feedback on this forum.  But in talking to them about the installation it came apparent to me that they would really prefer to do the install.  In fact, the price was $2400 for the kit or $2400 for the kit and installation.  I pleated for discount since I wanted to install myself but they would not budge.  I then started to ask some questions about how they interface with the radio and would I get error codes…ect….and was not giving any real answers, other than it is a complicated install which is why they prefer they do it themselves.

I then call Biktronics and was transferred to Mike, the owner who to my surprise, spent about an hour on the phone with me discussing in detail what he felt the issues were with the CVO system and the components.  We discussed his amps, speaker and why he designed a bracket to replace the speaker pods.  The purpose of his Line Levelers to recondition the radio signal outputs.  Re-flash the radio configuration to “zero amp, four speaker and fader enabled”.  The importance of resetting the radio to factory defaults.  How his breakout harness integrates with the Harley wiring harnesses.  Then after all this, he stated, “After you install it, if you don’t like it, send it back and I will give your money back.”
The only modification needed for the Biktronics system was to run a wire from the battery to the amp and to cut the speaker baskets out of the saddle bag lids.  The basket had to be cut to make room for the larger 5x7 speakers.

All the parts fit like a glove.  The machining/fabrication of the adapter bracket were spot on and all hardware was of top quality.
The payoff is that the sound quality is better than I had expected and everything comes with a lifetime warranty.

So you retained the stock 6.5 infotainment center and didnt have to cut any of the wire looms? What about the saddle bag amp, is that eliminated and the fairing amp now powers all 4 speakers? I kinda wish mine would blow so I could justify the swap, as long as its a plug in system, and get my saddle bag space back.

No wires were needed to be cut. The rear amp is removed and is replaced by an adapter ( if you look at reply #1, it is the black adapter in the lower right corner) which allows the stock woofer speaker plug to used to drive the rear speakers.

The breakout harness in the fairing that connects to the radio and main harness has the splice.  This splice is where the amp's rear channel is plugged into the main harness that runs to the left saddle bag and is used to drive the rear speaker.

Is the Biketronics kit equivalent to the Soundz Stage lV or Stage V??   Interesting he would not let you do the install, I did my own with his equipment and no issues.

Not sure about Soundz  Stages and it wasn't that they wouldn't  let me install it either. My concern was that the person I was talking with was pushing for them to do the install and was not forthcoming on the basic installation details.

i notice you are from Upper Providence,  I live right off Rt 29 by Wegmans....we should get together and crank up the tunes!

Thanks for the info! 1 more question. Does this effect the rear saddle bag power locks? The wiring for the locks is in the same saddle bag harness as the amp and speakers

My guess would be that it would not effect the the power locks. The Breakout harness connects only to those wires that come out of the radio.  In the saddle bag only the wires that go to the amp are effected.

I didn't know that!   So your 2017 CVO Street Glide has power Saddlebag Lid Locks?    I have to figure out a way to add them to mine.    I hate having to go from side to side locking and unlocking all the time.    My wife always has to stick her stuff in both saddlebags...  :(

I used soundz on my last 2 bikes.  I just saw Pete in Daytona and upgraded to his latest version of his own speakers. I think hybrid audio is working with him but it's his design.  With the arc 600.4 my system soundz amazing. . Really happy with his products and I had no problem letting him install all of it. In fact.  I m prefer it. Also added his speakers mounted on the lowers.  And I am water cooled.  For me, those days are long gone spending a day or more doing that.  He's the expert so I let the experts do the work. I can tell you that I am very happy with the results. .  Stuart.

As for the electric saddle bag locks and the aftermarket sound systems, Soundz does not use your existing wiring system and install new wiring to your saddle bags for the speakers. (New holes and grommets in your saddle bag with additional plugs) One reason I did my own install on both my bikes doing it my way vs their way. On my '15 I removed all wiring harnesses used for the rear system and fabricated plates to cover the factory plug holes in saddle bags and ran my wires through those plates, on my '17 I used the existing harnesses and created new wiring harnesses to plug into making a plug and play system not affecting any factory wiring and or spicing and additional holes in saddle bags.    J & M will not provide a system for the New '17 CVOSG because they have yet to figure "the elaborate wiring system" (John's words not mine) used on the new bikes that have electric saddle bag locks to create a plug and play system. Biketronics I believe will work on the '17 with electric locks for they have created a breakout harness as previously mentioned.

Spoke with Mike on Friday, going back and forth over email.  I’m replacing amp and speakers on 2018 CVO ultra.  Having solid discussions on using LL or DSR1.   I really want to keep the stock head unit for the additional info it give, but I’m all about sound quality.
I’ve sent him my EQ file and going from there.  Cat Eye, are using boom 6.5 and line levellers?
