Milwaukee-Eight

I'm more confused then even on what oil to use. I have been using Red Line with no problems. Mobile 1 cost about 1/2 and I see that many use that also with no problems. I'm not trying to be cheap but why waste money when you can buy more beer and waste it that way.

Please tell me you didn't start another oil thread Bill.  ;)

No matter what the various oil brand snobs might tell you, it really doesn't make a difference.  Have you ever heard of an engine failure caused by the brand of oil it had in it?  Nope, and you never will as long as people use the correct SAE grade and API rating as called for by the engine manufacturer.

So Jerry I should use 20-50. How do you feel about regular vs synthetic?

20w50 is the best choice for people who ride in a wide range of temperatures, while those who always ride in hot and extremely hot climates might prefer a 60 weight.  I personally prefer synthetic for its better high temperature protection, and actually used it way back when Harley told everyone it would ruin their engines (in reality it just reduced Harley's profits because at that time Harley didn't sell a synthetic).  I also use synthetic in my other vehicles as well.  But that's just my personal preference, good ol' dino oil is still acceptable.

As Jerry said, any oil is fine.  I get a laugh out of those that think they'll lose their engine if not using brand X.

Had a conversation with a guy who sold wholesale oil components while back and said companies like Red Line. Royal Purple etc spent the money on the good stuff (Quality) and he would recommend them.  He said there is a lot of crappy ingredients out there.  Also Mobil supplies the base oil to almost all those companies which makes up 80 plus percent of there product.  Is this true?  He seemed to know a lot about oil.

I'm with Jerry, don't understand this obsession with oil. I've used syn 3 for years with zero issues.
