Pirelli Night Dragon GT lasted only 5000 miles
« on: July 17, 2018, 08:35:25 AM »

Last month I had a Pirelli Night Dragon GT rear tire installed. It only lasted 5000 miles. I kept the tire pressure at 42, I don't do wheelies or burnouts. They advertised it as a long life tire. I just ordered a Donlop American Elite rear tire. Are they a good tire?

American is what I have been using for years. I get about 15,000 on the rear. Could get more but they coat our roads with granite chips and they are hard on tires.

Ok thanks. I ride a lot even in mid summer when it's almost 100 degrees, I guess that doesn't help any. I have never gotten over 8k miles on any rear tire even the Commander 2. Thanks

I was thinking the same thing Terry. That tire was toast at 4K miles.

I just run the stock Dunflops and usually about 11k and I change early and mostly 2-up and pull a tent trailer as well.

Noticed you're from Louisana and having been to Baton Rouge & New Orleans in the spring (April) I tip my hat to you.... It was hotter than I could take when I visited during that time of the year (in a cage) I can't imagine enjoying a ride on a (air-cooled) H-D in the summer. :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop:

Even if you ride early morning or late afternoon evening I imagine the road temp never really cools off.

Yeah, it's hot here. Bikers ride out west in the desert, I know it's hot there too! I imagine hot roads don't help.

Had the same experience with Night Dragons on my 08 SG. Bridgestones were even worse. Guys getting over 10k are probably on the newer 09 up frame with the wider rear tire. I put American Elites on my RG last go round and they are holding up well. Better than the HD Dunflops did on the same bike.

Think you will be very happy with the Elites. Similar temperatures here in Ok during the summer months and they have been lasting past the 12,000 mark

What kind of bike was that on? I am using Tapatalk so I don’t see signatures.
I put Pirelli ND GT’s on my RGU and have over 3000 miles on them and haven’t seen anything like that!
I don’t stare at my tires but I think I better get down and have a good look...that is crazy wear at 5000 miles!

have they come out with a nd with the proper load rating for a bagger?  last time i checked, there was a significant difference in the load rating between stock and night dragon for the rear.  something in the neighborhood of 825lbs for the pirelli and almost 1000 for the stock.  i'd be nervous with that amount of difference.
