Highway peg mount advice
« on: August 26, 2018, 09:14:50 AM »

Has anybody fitted the short angled highway peg mount kit (50500168) to the chopped engine guard? If so did they fit ok? I have read a lot of reviews about them being badly made and finished and that they are hard to fit without damaging paint or stripping threads.

I have an 18 SERG

Thanks

I have those mounts on my cvo limited and they fit fine, work well, clear the lowers. No issues.
Not sure about your chopped engine guard

Harley chrome is good. Put the bike up on a jack and install the pegs without final torque till you have them in the exact right position for you. Then torque them down.

Chrome isn’t an issue as everything is gloss black. The reviews I read said that they were too tight to close up to even get the bolt started. People were using g clamps to close them up to get the first few threads started.

I had an issue with trying to get my clamps to fit on that engine guard without slipping. Seems I couldn't clamp them down tight enough. I went to my local hardware store and bought a strip of grip/friction tape that was the appropriate width. In my case they carried several widths on rolls so that you could purchase it by the foot. It's the same stuff that kids use on skateboards and that is used on steps for non skid applications.
Find the sweet spot that you want to put your clamps on your engine guard and put some on the inside of the bar. It doesn't take much, less than half way around is more than enough. After installation whichever highway peg clamps you choose will work as well as putting them on a regular engine guard. In other words it's not the clamps, It's that cool looking crash bar that gives you trouble on this application.

Hope this helps.
