Heartbroken from my own stupidity! How much will this cost?
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:24:55 PM »

I have an extra lawn tractor at my house right now and was pulling it into my garage this evening.  As I pulled behind my motorcycle the tractor kept creeping forward.  I went to hit the brake but hit the hydro pedal and the tractor lurched forward into my 2014 CVO Limited.  I crunched the bottom of my fender which has remained flawless along with the rest of bike for the past 20k miles.

Any idea how much it costs to replace a rear fender?  I'd probably remove it myself.  Do they ever get repaired or are they always replaced?  In the grand scheme of things, mine isn't too bad, but I'm kicking myself for parking a stupid $2K Kubota behind my $40k motorcycle.  For those of you in Northern Virginia, do you have any recommendations on where to get a new fender or where I can have my repaired to look like new?

For your 2014 a blue rear painted fender is part# 59500137DRS (Jupiter Blue).  If HD has it in stock will take less than a week to get.  If they have to paint one, I'd estimate 4-8 weeks.  Type that number into some of the online dealers that give 20% off, free shipping, and no tax.  I would guestimate $800-1200..
If fender is crinkled (bent), I would order a new painted one from HD..  Good luck.  If just needs painted try Joe at Xtreme Dimension a vendor on here.  As good as he is, I's still just order a new one.

Awww, now you've gone and hurt that poor Kubota's feelings, calling it stupid like that.
It was just in awe of your pretty CVO and wanted to snuggle up close...

But seriously, that's a shame. I'm sorry to hear that, but replacing is likely the best route.

It depends on how much metal damage you're talking about.  If it was just paint damage, I'd call Joe at Exxtreme Dimension as Boatman mentioned.  If the metal is creased or seriously bent/stretched, then I'd grit my teeth and pop for a new painted fender.  It's all about the degree of damage.

MSRP on the fender is $866.65 btw.  The discount dealers should be able to save you at least a hundred off MSRP.

Buddy, I feel your pain...I did the samething on my Kubota, except I managed to miss my car and bike, but hit the garage wall.  Don't daydream and cut grass.

As has been stated if the metal is creased you're better off just getting a replacement. One other thing to consider if you do go the fix & paint route your bike will be down for a period of time (w/o fender) while you wait. Most good painters stay busy and there will be a wait period... sometimes longer than you would want to wait.

Thanks for the info!  How did you come up with that part number so fast?  I called my dealer to confirm 1.5 hours ago and they still haven't gotten back to me.

Do you happen to know if the new fender comes with the CVO emblem on the rear?  If not, is it just taped on with trim adhesive?  How difficult is it to replace a rear fender?

I have the parts and service manuals to get part number. Will look at installation and what comes with fender tonight.   Most dealers are incompetent.  Sadly.

Thank you very much, your help is greatly appreciated.

I ended up ordering a new fender from Surdyke for $713.  Stupidity is expensive

looks like the fender only comes with the clear protective tape patch on the top per the part number. the medallion is a separate part number 59424-10 along with the fender to saddlebag support bracket. 91140-09

Thanks!  Only the lower part of my fender got banged up so I'll reuse everything else.  I just need to figure out how to remove the medallion from the old fender and attach it to the new one.

It's just stuck on with double stick tape.  A heat gun and some elbow grease.  If you are replacing the fender, the only thing you would be worried about would be the medallion itself.  I have a small piece of wood tapered at one end to help remove items but some folks use the heat and dental floss/string to perform the task.  Most things stuck on can be removed without a lot of effort.

Good luck.

The medallion is a separate part.  If yours isn't damaged you can remove it as Haird mentioned and reapply it with some 3M molding tape.

You can look up parts on-line, follow this link for the rear fender of your 2014 FLHTKSE:

Bookmark this link and you'll be able to look up any parts you like:

Boardtracker H-D in Janesville, WI, has it listed for $696 . . . and they'll ship free and if you're out of state no sales tax.  Newcastle H-D wanted $736 and change.
I had a damaged front fender on my 2011 CVO RG Ultra and the custom painters I talked to had minimum charges of about $400 to $500 and lead time as previously stated.  For the extra couple hundred $$ I'd go for the new fender.

Don't be too hard on yourself.  Stuff happens and it only $$$.  :2vrolijk_21:

At least it's a part that can be swapped out with factory paint that just bolts on. Don't worry we will all forget before you do. ;D
