Oil light
« on: November 12, 2018, 04:34:38 PM »

2017 CVO limited
Oil light stays on after starting and driving
Shut bike off and SOMETIMES light goes off and running is normal.
Since this model no longer has an oil pressure reading we don’t have any idea on oil pressure.
Lifters are quiet so I figure on running it until the dealership can look at it.

Any ideas?

TIA

Could be a bad sending unit (switch).  Easiest way to check is to remove the unit and install a mechanical pressure gauge.

Could be a bad sending unit or a grounded wire; if it's still in warranty have them fix it.  Since they didn't give you a proper gauge, the idiot light needs to work.  I wouldn't ignore it and just assume you have sufficient oil pressure.  Btw, those idiot lights are set to go off at extremely low pressure, as in any pressure at all.  Two psi will turn off the light, but two psi is NOT acceptable pressure.

The switch only costs about $12, so if your dealer can't get you in you could always just buy a new switch and install it.  If that doesn't fix the problem, you're only out $12.    P/N: 71400112      OIL PRESSURE SWITCH

When you toggle to the info screen, does it say oil pressure ok?

Both a friend and I have had this happen on our M8s - red low oil pressure light came on and the info screen didn't say ok or check oit - it said '--'.  After turning the ignition off and restarting it was ok.  Had the oil pressure sending unit replaced and has not happened again.  Fingers crossed, lol.

Thanks, that’s my next step, I’ll have to push to get it done, it’s intermittent and the dealer will probably not see it after a restart.
I’ll have to tell them AGAIN I don’t make this up and I’d rather NOT have them keep changing parts.
Never had so many little issues with previous bikes.
