Time for new stoppage
« on: January 26, 2019, 04:39:58 PM »

Time for, at least, rear brake job on my SEEG. Probably have to replace the rotor. Planning on Lyndall+ pads. Was thinking of just replacing rotor with OEM. It is a floating rotor? Anything else I Shiite consider? Not exactly like you can see it behind the bags.

Jim at Metal Dragon did my rear brakes a few months ago. I went with a non-floating OEM rotor and EBC pads. Like you said you can't see the rotor behind the bags, so not much to gain there.

Good choice on the LRB pads, I have been using them since I bought my SEEG in fall of 04. Great pads. I have never had to replace a rotor on the rear, although I lay my foot on the pedal when stopping in case it is needed, I hardly ever actually press on it very hard, mainly use the fronts.

Replaced my floating rotor a couple years ago with the one pictured...it works fine with Lyndall pads and it was super cheap!  My front OEM (non-CVO) rotors are warped and I’m replacing them with floating in an effort to keep them from warping again

I went with OE replacement on the rear of my 05. Works for me...

Why do you have to replace the rotor? Did you put a micrometer on it and it is less than spec or is it wobbling when you apply the brake?

I replaced my rear rotor because it was worn out. Jim put a micrometer on it and it was below specs. I am a heavy rear braker, I drag the rear brake doing all that motor-cop slow speed work. That’s why I change rear pads every time I change rear tires.

It was around $50, got it on eBay.  Don’t have a part # but the brand is DNA, 11.5” for my 04, not sure what year they changed but newer models are 11.8”

There was another thread on what's the diff on organic pads and sintered pads.

It seems the pads you choose depends upon your riding style.

If you're a easy braking rider the organic pads appear too be a good way to go there're easy on the rotors because there's no copper in the pad that makes for added friction wear to the rotors.
But they don't displace heat as well as sintered pads

Then there's the semi-sintered pads  for the little more aggressive braking rider . That are part organic and copper added these again have good bite and also easier on the rotors wear

It's personal preference but for me before I knew of the difference between the different kinds of pads I was running with the sintered pads and the rear rotor was showing  wear. Unfortunately the rotor had to be changed before it needed due to damage it received.

Just something to consider
