21 Inch Front Wheel, does it make it heavy?
« on: March 08, 2019, 09:21:00 PM »

I know it sounds crazy, but since I upgraded to a 21 Front wheel cobra AvonAV71 120/70-21 42
with 200/55 r 17 m/c 78v rear tire Metzeler ME 880 Marathon bike feels heavy when I straighten it. Is it because the bigger wheel size? Should I lover the front?  I also have an ARNOTT air ride.  Thank you.

I believe i posted something about this almost three years ago.  Well since then I've been riding less and now I'm back on it.  Just need some clarification. Wether i should lower my front, or go back to original rear tire. Or just go back to default period. LOL

Did the same thing on an 07 King even down to the Arnott rear air, although being the old frame I couldn't put that nice fat tire on the rear. I put the Progressive 2" lowering kit in the front of mine along with the same 21" set up and it worked excellent, with or without the Dragonfly quick release fairing and stereo installed. You may also want to have your neck adjustment checked by someone you trust. I have no personal experience with this but it's worth having it looked at.

Hope this helps

So no issue propping the bike up?  I think that’s where I have the problem, when propping the bike up it’s heavy as hell to get it propped up.

when you go to stand the bike up, turn the handlebars all the way to the right.  that makes it stand up straighter and you'll have less distance that you have to move it.  course, with a 21'' front wheel and not lowering the suspension, it may still be tough.

We put a 21 on my wife's bike this past summer and it does feel heavier. Never lowered the front and she got use to it. Funny thing is when she gets on my bike to move it with the stock 19 she says it seems lite. By the end of the riding season she said it felt normal.

It’s because it’s leaning over more on the kick stand now that it is sitting higher. Try putting a shim under the kick stand that puts it back at the factory lean angle. If that works you can buy a slightly longer kickstand and problem solved.

Wow good observation.  Will try that.

If you want it to handle and feel more like stock, when you add a 21 front wheel, the front needs to be lowered 1 inch.  This puts the rake and trail back to very close to factory specs.  That is what I did when I did a 21 on my Fatboy back in 2009.

The CVO Road Glides with the 21 from the factory come with a 1" lower front suspension.  Also if you buy the 21 front wheel kit from Harley, it comes with the stuff to lower the front 1".
