Almost Unbelievable Tour Glide
« on: June 05, 2005, 08:13:48 PM »

Was at the Illinois State HOG Rally this past weekend.  Best part was getting to meet up with 103 again for just a little bit.  But I didn't take any pictures of him.

Did, however, take pictures of an old Tour Glide that you're not going to believe unless you've seen it before.

What's better is this bike hits the road.  I've seen it at rallies in AR, KY, MO, IL and LA over the last several years.  Belongs to an older couple that have had the bike since it was new if I remember the story correctly.

First time I saw it four or five years ago it was almost identical to what it is now.  Guess they've got just no more room left  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .  The old gentleman that rides it has got to use a centerstand as he says to side stand may not hold it and he couldn't always get it stood back up far enough to get the stand kicked away if the road pitch was too bad.  He told me once a couple of years ago that this weights just over 1100 pounds.

Engine right.

Everytime you blink you find some item or engraving or art or something that you'd missed previously.  This machine at night is truly a piece of rolling sculpure in a class by itself.  It's certainly over the top.  Not even necessarily my cup of tea.  But it is impressive nonetheless.

Then to see something that pales mightily in comparison one would view my lowly little red bike.  Was lucky to see again a pinstriper that I'd seen before and had him do the spoiler on the chopped tour pak and fill in some plain areas with some designs I'd (roughly) sketched out beforehand.

I think I like the little bit on the dash best so we'll start there.

Then here are the flames carried up on top of the spoiler along with the complementing work in the center of the lid.

The same work was carried down to the saddlebag lids as well.  First both sides and then something a bit closer in for comparison.

Here's both sides:

.....and then what it looks like up a bit closer.

When you get back from the bike a bit and can take it all in from back to front it really looks good together (to my tastes anyway) and looks very complementary to what's there to begin with.  Looks like it could have always been there as part of the original paint work.

I'd almost think youd need a small honda generator in the  tour pak. LOL!!! and additional fuel.

Twolane, I think this is one of those bikes that they put in trailers.  Let's see, 103 tHunDer would probably know. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

JC when you see the bike you'd think so.  Really would.  But I've spoken with the couple that ride it.  They're both somewhere well in to their 60s.  While they do occasionally trailer for time constraints or expected bad weather they generally still just ride the thing.  I remember the gentleman telling me one time something like "all my old friends have motor homes now and we have this."
