It's here, my FXR4 was delivered today
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:00:12 AM »

Keyboard got here 90 minutes early, so I missed the actual delivery.  I was out getting gas to fill 'er up.  My wife was here.  It was in the garage when I got home.   It's 60 degrees but raining, so no rides.
It's in mint condition, I love it.

Unfortunately this weeks sanding and salting sort of means the end of my riding season, but you and Sue are welcome anytime  We'll set something up.

Nuttin but the bike and wind deflector.  I'd like to have the exhaust, but maybe I'lll find one on Ebay.  1st project is forward controls.  I want the type where you don't add the master cylinder.  The KuryAkyn 9068 are discontinued.  Another variety doesn't appear to look sturdy in the photos.

Phil,
Congrats, bike looks great. :2vrolijk_21: BTW - Since the bike was already on the truck I'm sure someone in a warmer climate would have been more then happy to keep it and ride over the winter for you. :D :D

It was purchased from Heritage in Lisle, Il., close to you?  They were great to deal with.

Looking for a new governor and senator these days.  The Daley legacy.  The only city more corrupt than Chicago is Boston.  We has a state senator filmed taking bribes and a Boston city councilman, in one month.

Very nice bike! I got a yellow FXR4 also but had a few changes from stock when I got it. I changed it some more too but hey isn't it all about customizing it and  making suit your preferences? Anyway I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. This is my second FXR they handle like a big Sportster in town but drive way better on the highway. Walk out in a parking lot of Hogs you will see many Softails, Dressers etc but will not see any or many FXR bikes! I could have gotten a new one for a bit more but I got what I wanted. You see alot of TC but not too many EVO bikes nowdays. Where did they all go?????? But having a rare  last of FXR  and last EVO and last of the carberated motors off the assembly line is some thing to love.
Enjoy it man,

Lynn

After a lot of grief with my 07 110", it's nice to get back to basics.  I've found a carb street glide that I'm pursuing, too.

Congrats on the FXR.  I LOVE my Green FXR3!

I wonder how many we have here in the Chicagoland Area.  I know of at least 3 with yours. I live in Tinley Park about a mile east of Chi-Town HD.  I work in Lombard not to far from Lisle HD.

Anybody else?

Great but only able to get about 200 miles before the weather changed. The frame is great and the paint is awesome. Can't wait to get some more miles on it. We feel it was the right time to move the FLHRSE3.

TATATNT~~~~
Welcome to the FXR SECTION!!!!!

Listed below you will find a great THREAD which was initially started by George (gflvette2) here within the FXR SECTION this past summer and addresses some of the same questions of value, while he originally starts out wondering about an FX2, he ends up purchasing an FXR3, but it's a very long THREAD that has great participation within it as he begins to address the very same question of what a bike such as a CVO Harley might be worth, if you like take a peek:
Value of a 1999 FXR2   <~~~CLICK, VIEW, & READ
It might serve you better to start a new topic.....but that's just an opinion....lol.... :bananarock:

Is it worth it?

Wow what a loaded question.....lol....the answer depends on so many things.....and any answer you receive is one that will be based upon such subjective reflections.....Who would have thought that within the past 80 days that regular gasoline would be @ $1.31 per gallon in my community and still going down.   The world is a different place today than it was 80 days ago......Anyone of us as Owners of FXR's as well as Owner's of CVO FXR's could easily discuss the merits of one's potential Ownership of an FXR or CVO FXR2, FXR3, or FXR4, but when it comes to value....none of us really knows what values should be or will be in the months ahead.....Perhaps this might help, is it worth $1,000.00 yes to anybody here it would be....without a doubt, is it worth, $2,000.00 or $3,000.00 of course, is it worth $4,000.00 yes, even $5,000.00 definitely....is it worth $6,000.00 definitely....Is it worth $7,000 to me.......since I have one.....and it's the one I want....probably not....so even at this number subjectiveness begins to "affect" one's reflections....and it's here where you begin to debate or review the "merits" of the particular bike.....even at $7,000.00....and since the Seller has apparently decided that $10,500 is what he/she is willing to take you now do not need to consider $10,501.00 since it's not on the table.....

So the the range of value is between $7,000.00 to $10,500 for this FXR4....is it only worth $7,000.00 ? ? ? ?......I am not saying that but perhaps some here and even you will potentially assume that's what I am saying because I have typed that number as the lowest number.....but what I am trying to do is give you a "range" most of us here would probably feel you "would "steal" the bike @ $7,000.00 but yet there would be some that would loose in interest in the bike at that value because they already own one....so as you can see the range of value for yourself begins to be defined by your very own "motivation".    When these bikes were brand new they retailed for around $17,995.00 and some of them went for over $25,000.00 today on December 12, 2008 with 12,000 miles on the bike a "friend" of yours is willing to accept $10,500.00.

If you were to ask me if the FXR4 is a better bike than perhaps the CVO you currently own I would definitely say yes.....and for me at any value it would be.....I am not attempting to be offensive....but it's here that we begin to discuss the "merits" of the bike for riding and enjoyment purposes....here is where the "passion" and "intensity" of why we all love our FXR's whether they are a model from 1982-1994 or are a CVO FXR2, FXR3, or FXR4.  It's within this paragraph that much could be discussed....for example the "merits" of one's choice to purchase an FXR2 or an FXR3 or an FXR4 and what would consititue one's decision to do so....once again very subjective.....

I have no idea what your background is with FXR's but I might suggest taking a sneek and peek of this following THREAD if you haven't done so:

FXR HISTORY <~~~CLICK, VIEW, & READ

I encourage you if you have little information about FXR's to take your time and reivew this thread.....lol in my opinion it's well worth the read....

So what's the bike worth?  Well what are you willing to pay?  But what I will say is be "motivated" by the acquistion of gain and not motivated by the fear of loss.

Regards,

Tim

I bought my FXR in 2000 with 315 miles on it
I paid $19,500 for it
If I recall the retail sticker was $17K and something

today it has 26K miles on it ..... I was working and traveling a lot until I retired two years ago so I didn't get many miles on it the first 6 years.

is it worth $10K to me today ..... yep, you can't buy it from me for that amount.  Currently I have no price in my head at which you could buy my bike.  I'm sure if someone offered me 20K for it, I'd consider it, but even then it would be a hard decision.

would I buy it for $10K .... if I didn't have one. I would have to consider the condition of the bike, the mileage, what else I might have to or want to add to the bike. That would determine my initial cost.  Then I'd have to do an internal search to determine if I were willing to pay that amount of money for the bike.

The real 'value' of the bike will be determined by the seller and the buyer.  In the perfect world both will be happy with the amount of dollars exchanged.  The buyer will fell like they got a fantastic bike at a really good price. The seller will be happy knowing that they got a good price for their 9 year old bike.

Best of luck to you in your decision.

Well if it helps, I just paid that for a yellow one with 5000 miles and I think it was a great deal.  It's a beautiful bike with a legacy, last EVO, last FXR.  Being almost a decade old, it's not that well known out there.

WooHoo!!! Congrats Phil!!! Good luck with your new baby, which is surely gonna give ya much less grief than your SERK3 did! :2vrolijk_21:

And if you want forward controls, look at earlier pics of Joy. If you're interested, those Hurst FC's can be on your Canary soon! ;)
