Harman Kardon GPS
« on: September 30, 2005, 02:34:38 AM »

Well I just stuffed the gps into the radio. Looks like everything is working. I still have to put the fairing back on . Took it for a test ride anyway just used the spots. I'll take a pic before I button it up.

Install was easy. Software check, than an upgrade to a higher version 7.4 . Takes about 7 minutes for the upload. EErom check, checksum check and then good to go. Comes with two disks one for west and one for east. Software says Harman Becker and is for Navteq.

Now the radio has a compass and the clock time is tied to the gps.
My complaint is the unit does not come with an antenna bracket. It is the reverse of the one for the xm. I had to make a bracket until I get one ordered. The other thing is HD should have included a T-8 with the kit.

Hi Jerry.   I have one of these on order, despite the unbelievable price.  Did you do your software upgrade with a disk and therefore future upgrades can be done easily?
Also, do you have the part no. for the missing bracket?

So it is a disk based navigation and waypoints database?  In other words no CD or MP3 based music and navigation at the same time?

Once you have your destination programed the cd can be removed. I am still learning but the unit has a split screen mode also.

Then you'd need to travel with the disk (and take a chance of losing it or mucking it up) if you want to vary or play from one your one defined route made before you left on the trip?  Or you'd need to swap in the disk if you found sudden need for a gas station?  Jerry, when you play with this gadget more and have a good feel for its pros and cons a good review would be interesting.

Thanks for the pics and the part no. Jerry.  My dealer said that part no. corresponds to the XM antenna, but the website indicates this is a vital part no. for the GPS.  Another MoCo typo, no doubt.
I'll watch for your review of the unit.

Good pics, so on the radio pic, which part is the GPS???  Cause all that stuff looks like what is on the stock bike, but I could easily miss it in the mess they have in these things. [smiley=confused5.gif]
