Some sort of quick disconnect---like maybe a battery tender type of plug since I am not using the audio feature connected to the radio, so the only connections I need are power and ground.
You gonna go with the 660?  I might just "pull the trigger" on it this afternoon........ ;D

Pretty sure that's what I am doing--just need to get the money for it. I need to replace the headpipe and the seat before the GPS. Besides, I'm done taking trips that will require the GPS for this year. But the seat and exhaust will be useful now!!

seems like the thread is mostly about deciding which is better the zumo 550 or 650.  My question is whether it would make more sense to buy a fully featured Garmin other than a zumo for about $200 as seen on Amazon.com  Granted it wouldn't be waterproof but you can buy 3 of them for the price of a Zumo.  Will the Techmounts work on other Garmin products? Any other substantial drawbacks in chosing a non-motorcycle Garmin?  I have been using an old Garmin Streetpilot 3 for years strapped to the handlebars without problems.

One of the big features for me is waterproof--you never know what you may run it to. I have a waterproof housing to put a GPS unit into and then mount on the bars, but it is ugly. Between the secure mounting cradle and clutch handle mounting bracket, it makes the Garmin the choice for me. Between the 550 or 660 is personal preference.

I got the HD Zumo 660 from Jenni at Tri-Counties...$599.96 + $10.40 shipping.  Bought the handlebar mount from Leader Motorcycle.  Great quality parts for a very reasonable price.  If you buy the handlebar kit, I advise getting the Ultra-Tilt also.

I've got a 550 with a new fairing mount and additional bracket.  I'm hoping to get $400 when I list it on ebay.  I bought a 660 and like it much better
