I'm waiting to finalize my deal and I remember seeing a sticker saying you if there is a deep chip or scratch that it has to be treated with special touch up.  For the most part, Harley paint is nice and the clear is nice and thick.  I'm just wondering how the paint is holding up on those that have the bike with some miles on them?  Since I'm getting in it the winter, I'm gonna S100 the heck out of it and Rejex the wheels.  What is the general consensus?

You may want to look at old threads about the CVO Fatboys they had clear coated polished metal in certain spots. Some members experienced rust under the clear coat due to errors in the painting process or to chips in the clear. I don't think it was a widespread problem though.
I don't know if the procedure or clear coat has changed over time.

Just my .02 but i don't understand the positive spin H-D put on an unfinished piece of metal or in 2003 they bragged about how thin the silver finish was on the anniversary bikes? Makes it sound good to have missed paint spots or thin paint?
Like this year they brag about the anniversary badges and say it's an individual finish and no two are alike.....(In other words quality control can't handle that many defects?)    :huepfenlol2:

I will be running some Motorcycle TankArmor. A mate has them on this CVO Springer and you dont even notice them until your right up close to the bike.

Rather than the shield (which I find to be very visible btw), why not look into one of the various clear protective paint film products like Motorcycle Armor and others?  When professionally applied, they are much less visible than those shields.

Haven't seen any of the films that dont yellow with time. At least with the TankArmor you put them on if riding and take them off if showing off.

I currently use leather ones with my FXDF but dont think the black would look any good on a red breakout plus they dont work with flush mounted caps.
