Spot Connect?
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:55:32 PM »

Anyone running the SPOT Connect or one of the other GPS tracking system. I am doing a IBA C2C ride in may and want to get one so my other half and mom can track us so they know we are alright. Any pro or cons to the system?

Been using one for a couple of years now. Only use it on trips though. I leave it turned on even at night, that way in case the bike gets lifted I will have an idea in which way the thieves are going.
I originally got it because of some of the remote areas we ride in. No cell phone coverage. With the spot you  can send pre-canned messages to just about anywhere.
Saves me from having to call in as much too.

If you have an Android phone, you might want to explore "Google Latitude".  Not quite so robust, and doesn't help in remote areas, but it's free.

I set it up under a seperate gmail account to it's easier to turn off and on.
