Title: Trans to case leak

 New to the site. Glad to find Yall. Just got a FXDWG3 Black from centx
Harley,570miles now has 1200,and a leak from the trans to to motor case.
What is the best way to fix this. The stealer wont do anything

Welcome to the site, glad you found us. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Do you have (or are you able to take) any pictures of where this fluid is showing up? If it is what I'm thinking about (at least on my scooter) its going to be what looks like "seepage" around the seam where the cases meet the tranny. What a lot of us here have found out that there isn't any fluid in this area, there is no gasket there, but for some reason this black "oily" film will appear at this seam. What most of us have done is just purchased some "Brake Kleen" brake cleaner and used that periodically to remove that film.

If you are actually getting fluid to leak and spot the floor under your scooter then you do not have the problem I described above.

I've enclosed pictures of the "seepage" I was talking about earlier. If this is what you are seeing I don't think you should worry about it, as this is common. I was told even the black motors do this, but because ours has the satin finish it is more noticeable.

After using some Brakleen with a detailing swab it's all gone.

I have exactly the same problem.

Since the dealer replaced the tranny case due to a broken swingarm housing I have had the same oil seepage

I thought it was gasket goo but it keeps on coming - Yeah, it cleans up with Nevr-Dull but after 100 miles it's back there - messing up my cases.

Dealer denies it's a problem and they are normally good on warranty work

I am specially interested since I have 1 month of warranty left...

It will come back I can guarantee that. ;) It's one of those unfortunate things we have to deal with. I was told that there isn't any fluid in there (where is the fluid coming from that is coming out then? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]), and there isn't any gasket there. It is just one of those unfortunate design flaws that we have to live with. :( You are not alone as mines usually will come back around 100 miles also. I make it a habit of cleaning it up after each ride when I debug the front end before I put it away.

2avoid, sorry that this won't help with your Dyna.  But Dave and D00d, there is a solution for the same problem on our touring bikes.  The following turned out to be poor picture but it's Kuryakyn part # 8274.  It cover that interface area with a 5 minute install chrome cover.

TwoLaneRider, is that gold color a reflection of the back side of your chrome inner primary?  I've never seen this cover....does it fit good on the SEEG w/o modification?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] spyder

My guess is the gold reflection is actually from the exposed rear exhaust pipe.  I had that on my 04.

Yes, that's precisely what it is.  Looks like this thread was another that lost some text in The Transition. 

Reflection from the pipe is what you're seeing there.  So not a chroming problem.  Just a poor photographer  :2vrolijk_21: .
