The campaign was not to change the compression. The motors had two issues, oil leaking by the liners, root cause massive heat and defective parts. Other issue was heads were sticking rear exhaust valves because of heat again and the lack of oil control caused by the legacy Kline valve seals. The fix was new heads with improved (overpriced) seals. This was only on touring bikes. Nothing about the lifters then but in 2013 those were updated to the Screaming Eagle versions and somewhere along the path the first compensator that was junk right out of the gate was updated, 4 times now. The updated lifters were not an improvement and issues continued. Root cause in my opinion is a mismatch of valve springs and cam along with lifters that have poor heat treat on the rollers. The guys that tour with these CVOs, most know the drill and are replacing lifters often. Some get lucky and loose a lifter and get by with a partial fix, most require a full teardown and overhaul, sometimes new cases. It is ugly and all preventable but unfortunately not working with the dealer network unless they use aftermarket parts and have very sharp techs.
