Helmet Cams
« on: February 06, 2006, 11:05:14 PM »

I've been thinking about setting up my SEEG with a helmet cam. I can see where I'll end up having to use my chopped tourpac to hold the bulk of the equipment. I do have several camcorders, one small enough with the right aux jack to do the job, but I'll be looking for the rest of the components to bring it all together.
My brothers and I have been talking about this for a few years but with the upcoming CVO events and others, it's now a good time to go forth and get it done.
Any info from others that have plowed the way and have some ideas on mounting or locations of equipment please toss it in.
Thanks,

A very good friend of mine (who happened to take delivery of a new SEUC the other day) here in Sacramento has a hadlebar mounted camera.  I could probably find out where he ordered the mount from.  I remember that it was a little pricey but it's a nice unit.

It mounts to the handlebar and has an isolation unit built into it so that the camera rides smoothly.  We used it a couple years ago on a week trip that four of us took to Ariz. and we ended up with a nice video out of it.  It also has like a pistol grip that you can grap, squeeze and turn the camera in another direction or panning with it, pointing up or down as desired.

Let me know if this may be something that you're interested in looking into  and I'll try to get you some information.

Just made me think...
Now that I've got the new bike and cruisin in style, Nikki was asking if I could get a small screen installed on the back of my helmet and put in a DVD. I told her couch potatoes don't ride CVO's.

Quite a few options there alright, I noticed that some text mentioned audio and vidio drop out due to vibes, got to think the helmet mount would be a more logical spot.
But the one that has the pistol grip looks like a good choice for the bike mount.
Thanks for that link Vanamal

Bro,
The cam and mic that we've looked at before were good pieces of equipment but we'll see if there's something out here yet that may be better. Once the equipment is had I can then start figuring out the best storing/carrying spot for all of that.
And yes I agree that having the cam aiming to what your looking at is the best option

Here it is.........
http://www.cammount.com/

Our video turned out much like the demo videos on their homepage.  Very clear, no vibration and you could aim it where you want to.
